The TP-Link SG6428X is an Omada 24-port gigabit stackable L3 managed switch with 4 10G SFP+ slots. It has two internal fixed power supply modules, four fans, a dedicated RJ45 management port and a 32K MAC table, and supports full L3 routing including static routes, RIP, OSPF v2/v3, VRRP and ECMP. Up to 8 switches stack in standalone mode, or 4 under an Omada controller.

SG6428X overview

The SG6428X is TP-Link's Omada 24-Port Gigabit Stackable L3 Managed Switch with 4 10G Slots, hardware version V1, in the Omada Campus range. It steps up from the Lite L3 SG5428 models to a full L3 feature set and redundant power. Ports are twenty-four 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45, four 10G SFP+ slots, two USB 2.0 ports, an RJ45 console port, a USB Type-C console port and a dedicated RJ45 management port for out-of-band access. There is no PoE on this model; the SG6428XHP is the PoE+ version.

Resilience is built into the hardware. The SG6428X has two internal fixed power supply modules (100 to 240 V AC, 50/60 Hz), and two power cords are included. Four internal fixed fans handle cooling. The chassis is 440 x 380 x 44 mm and rack mountable, maximum power consumption is 28.4 W at 220 V/50 Hz, and operating temperature is 0 to 45 °C.

The L3 feature set covers up to 256 IPv4 and 256 IPv6 interfaces, up to 1,024 IPv4 and 512 IPv6 static routes, a 6,100-entry host route table, RIP v1/v2, OSPF v2/v3, VRRP v2/v3 with up to 64 groups, and ECMP with 256 entries and up to 32 next hops per destination. L2 features include link aggregation, spanning tree, loopback detection, ERPS, RSPAN, PIM-DM (IPv4), 2,048 IGMP groups, IGMP and MLD snooping and MVR. Performance is 128 Gbps per unit, 95.2 Mpps forwarding, a 32K MAC table, a 3 MB buffer and 9 KB jumbo frames.

Stacking uses the 10G SFP+ slots (all uplink ports can be stacking ports) at 20 Gbps per port full-duplex, with up to 8 switches in standalone mode or 4 in Omada controller mode. For centralised management it works with the Omada Cloud-Based, Hardware and Software Controllers. The box contains the switch, two power cords, an RJ45 console cable, a quick installation guide, a rackmount kit and rubber feet.
