The TP-Link Tapo L900-5 is a 5 m smart Wi-Fi light strip that fills a room with over 16 million colours, warm white or cool daylight. It syncs to music picked up by your phone, dims from 1% to 100% in the Tapo app, and works with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Siri Shortcuts. A controller box gives hands-on control, 3M adhesive holds it in place, and it connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with no hub.

Tapo L900-5 overview

The Tapo L900-5 is TP-Link's smart Wi-Fi light strip in a 5 m length, measuring 5000 x 10 x 1.6 mm. It is designed to fill any room with colour: pick from over 16 million vibrant colours, or switch to warm white or cool daylight as the mood takes you. Brightness is dimmable from 1% to 100% through the Tapo app and cloud, and you can automate the strip with different colours, timers, brightness levels and warmth, then control it anywhere and anytime from the app. The strip is held in place with 3M adhesive, which TP-Link says sticks firmly and leaves no residue.

Music mode turns the strip into a light show for a party. It picks up sound through your mobile device and syncs the lights to the frequency and the beat of the music. For everyday use, the Tapo app gives you direct control with no separate hub, while the controller box on the strip lets you turn it on or off, reset it and change the current colour without reaching for your phone. Paired with a Tapo sensor, the strip can glow softly when you get up at night and switch itself off after a short period without disturbing others.

Voice control covers Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, and the strip can also be controlled via Siri Shortcuts. TP-Link says the strip is designed with low voltage and does not flicker or emit blue light, and that it is built for better heat dissipation and toughness. On consistency, TP-Link quotes a wavelength fluctuation range of under 5 nm. Configuration takes a few minutes in the Tapo app.

Electrically, the L900-5 runs from a 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz supply with a 12 V DC, 1.0 A output, with a maximum power consumption of 13.5 W. It connects over IEEE 802.11b/g/n on 2.4 GHz and needs a secured home Wi-Fi connection. TP-Link lists CE certification and an operating range of -15 °C to 40 °C at 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity. Packaging measures 144.5 x 68.5 x 119.5 mm.
