The TP-Link Tapo L920-5 is a 5 m multicolour smart Wi-Fi light strip with RGBIC, which TP-Link describes as better control and artistic expression. It offers over 16 million colours plus warm white and cool daylight, an enhanced music mode that follows the beat, a PU-coated surface and 1% to 100% dimming. Control it in the Tapo app, by Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa or Siri Shortcuts, with no hub needed.

Tapo L920-5 overview

The Tapo L920-5 is TP-Link's multicolour smart Wi-Fi light strip in a 5 m length, listed at 5000 x 10 x 3.0 mm. Its headline feature is RGBIC, which TP-Link describes as being about better control and artistic expression. You can fill any room with over 16 million colours, or switch to warm white or cool daylight, and once you have worked out how you want the lighting set up you can save it and schedule it to run at your chosen times. Brightness is dimmable from 1% to 100% via the app and cloud.

Enhanced music mode lets the L920-5 capture the music playing around it and sync the light to the frequency and the beat, keeping pace with the rhythm at a party. TP-Link also suggests the strip for streamers who want expressive lighting in their studio to enrich the scene for their followers. The surface has a PU coating that TP-Link says gives crystal colour and centralised spots with no noise and no dark shadows around the LED beads, and protects the beads while keeping them easy to maintain. The strip fixes in place with 3M adhesive that sticks firmly and leaves no residue.

Control works your way. The Tapo app connects directly to the strip with no separate hub, so every feature is available from your phone. Voice control is supported through Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, and the strip can also be controlled via Siri Shortcuts. Connected to a Tapo sensor, it can glow softly to guide you through the night and turn itself off after a short period without disturbing others.

The L920-5 runs from a 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz supply with a 12 V DC, 1.5 A output, and TP-Link lists a maximum power consumption of 20.5 W. It connects via IEEE 802.11b/g/n on 2.4 GHz and needs a secured Wi-Fi connection. Weight is listed as 564 to 649 g and the packaging as 231.5 x 68.5 x 204.5 mm. TP-Link lists CE certification and an operating range of -15 °C to 40 °C at 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity.
