The TP-Link Tapo H100 Smart IoT Hub with Chime is the hub that Tapo sensors, buttons and switches connect to. It uses a low-power 922 MHz link that TP-Link says helps battery devices last up to 10 times longer than Wi-Fi battery devices, connects to your home over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and links up to 64 Tapo devices. A built-in siren reaches up to 90 dB, 19 ringtones are available at three volume levels, and a SYNC/Mute button mutes notifications. It plugs straight into a 100-240 V wall outlet and measures 72 x 62.5 x 51 mm.

The TP-Link Tapo H100 is a smart IoT hub with a built-in chime that plugs into a wall outlet and links Tapo sensors, switches and buttons over an ultra-low power wireless protocol. Each hub connects up to 64 Tapo devices, can sound a siren of up to 90 dB, offers 19 ringtones at three volume levels and acts as a doorbell chime with the Tapo Smart Button.

Tapo H100 overview

The Tapo H100 is the hub at the centre of a Tapo smart home. Tapo sensors, switches and buttons talk to it rather than to your Wi-Fi router, and the hub connects to the home network over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. TP-Link calls the sensor link an ultra-low power wireless protocol and says it helps battery-powered devices last up to 10 times longer, a figure it states is compared with battery-powered devices that use Wi-Fi. The hub transmits on what TP-Link describes as less-crowded, lower-frequency broadband (922 MHz in the specifications) so it can reach devices in every corner of the house; TP-Link notes that this comparison is against 2.4 GHz wireless systems, that coverage data came from its internal laboratories and that actual results vary with the environment.

Each H100 can connect up to 64 Tapo devices. TP-Link adds that the actual maximum may vary according to the type of device. Through the Tapo app you can use sensor detection or a button press to trigger a Shortcut or control Tapo devices such as smart plugs, smart lights and smart switches. TP-Link also notes that the H100 cannot connect directly to Tapo smart plugs or lighting; instead, sensor detection or a button press on the hub can trigger Smart Actions that control them.

The chime is what sets the H100 apart. Paired with a Tapo Smart Button mounted on the door, it becomes a smart doorbell system, and a quick press of the hub button mutes or unmutes notifications. There are 19 ringtones to choose from and three volume levels: Loud, Normal and Quiet. Working with Tapo motion sensors and door or window sensors, the hub can sound a loud siren of up to 90 dB to warn of danger or deter intruders. With Tapo environmental sensors it raises an instant hub alarm when a water leak is detected or when temperature and humidity move outside the ranges you set. The sensors and buttons are sold separately.

Setup follows three steps in TP-Link's guide: download the Tapo app, plug in and set up the hub, then add Tapo accessories and create Smart Actions. The H100 runs from 100-240 V AC at 50/60 Hz and plugs directly into the wall, measures 72 x 62.5 x 51 mm, operates from 0 to 40 °C and uses a UL94-V0 flame-retardant material. Its one physical control is the SYNC/Mute button. The box contains the Tapo H100 and a quick start guide. TP-Link sells the same hub inside the Tapo T30 KIT together with one Tapo T100 motion sensor and two Tapo T110 contact sensors.
