The TP-Link Tapo C720 smart floodlight camera is hardwired to mains power (100-240 V) and pairs two adjustable floodlights rated at 2800 lumens and 5000K with a 2K QHD (2560 x 1440) camera. Three PIR motion sensors with a 270° horizontal field of view trigger the light, and AI detection identifies people, pets and vehicles, plus line crossing and tampering. The 2.1 mm lens gives a 134° horizontal view, IR reaches 29.9 m and colour night vision uses the floodlight. It supports 2.4 GHz 802.11ax Wi-Fi with WPA3, RTSP and ONVIF, is rated IP65, and stores to microSD up to 512 GB (purchased separately) or Tapo Care (subscription).

The TP-Link Tapo C720 is a hardwired smart floodlight camera that combines two 2800-lumen, 5000K floodlights with 2K QHD (2560 x 1440) video and colour night vision. Three PIR sensors cover a 270° zone and switch the floodlight on when motion is detected, smart AI tells people, pets and vehicles apart, and you can dim and schedule the light in the Tapo app. It is rated IP65, has two-way audio and a 93 dB siren, and records to microSD up to 512 GB or Tapo Care.

Tapo C720 overview

The Tapo C720 is TP-Link's wired floodlight security camera, built to light up and record a yard, garage or other specific zone. Its two floodlights produce 2800 lumens at a colour temperature of 5000K, and TP-Link describes them as fully adjustable in angle as well as brightness. On the official AU page TP-Link says the floodlight penetrates 30 metres of darkness, while the summary on the same page says the floodlight and colour night vision see up to 30 feet, so the stated distance differs between sections of the page. Separately, 850 nm IR LEDs are rated to 98 ft (29.9 m), and colour night vision is listed alongside them.

Motion sensing uses three PIR motion sensors with a combined 270° horizontal field of view and an ambient light sensor. When motion is detected inside that zone, the floodlight switches on automatically. In the Tapo app the light is dimmable, with brightness steps shown from 5% to 100%, and you can schedule activation times and adjust the activation triggers. TP-Link pitches this as one-stop smart floodlight customisation.

The camera records 2K QHD at 2560 x 1440 pixels, up to 30 fps, with H.264 compression and 12x digital zoom. The 1/3-inch progressive scan CMOS starlight sensor sits behind a 2.1 mm F2.1 lens with a 153° diagonal, 134° horizontal and 77.6° vertical field of view in the specification table; elsewhere on the page and in the datasheet TP-Link rounds this to a 150° wide field of view. 3DNR and WDR are applied to the image.

Smart AI detection with motion tagging identifies people, pets and vehicles and highlights the movement in live view so you can see exactly what triggered the alert; line-crossing and tamper detection are also listed. Customisable activity zones limit alerts to the areas you define. For deterrence you can record custom audio to play as an alarm when motion is detected, or sound the siren, which is rated 93 dB at 10 cm. Two-way audio with noise cancellation runs through the built-in microphone and speaker.

Footage can be stored locally on a microSD card of up to 512 GB (purchased separately; actual storage capacity depends on the card used), or in Tapo Care cloud storage, which requires a subscription and adds snapshot notifications. The C720 connects over IEEE 802.11b/g/n/ax Wi-Fi on 2.4 GHz with WPA/WPA2-PSK/WPA3 security and 128-bit AES encryption with SSL/TLS, supports RTSP and ONVIF, and integrates with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings. TP-Link highlights 24/7 monitoring from hardwired power.

The C720 is hardwired only, from a 100-240 V, 50/60 Hz supply; there is no battery or plug-in adapter option. It is rated IP65, mounts on a wall or ceiling, operates from -20 °C to 45 °C, and measures 151 x 151 x 145.6 mm in the AU specifications. The box contains the Tapo C720 camera, mounting plate, plate screws, mounting bracket, bracket screws, mounting screws and anchors, camera screws and screw caps, mounting template, sticker and quick start guide.
