The TP-Link S5500-48GP4F is an Omada Pro 48-port PoE+ Gigabit L2+ managed switch with four Gigabit SFP slots (hardware V1). All 48 RJ45 ports are 802.3at/af PoE+ sharing a 384 W budget, with 104 Gbps switching capacity, 48 static routes, QinQ, ERPS, 802.1X and ACLs in a 19-inch rackmount chassis, managed standalone or through an Omada Pro controller.

S5500-48GP4F overview

The S5500-48GP4F is TP-Link's Omada Pro 48-port PoE+ Gigabit L2+ managed switch with 4 SFP slots, hardware version V1. TP-Link Australia does not currently list it, so these details come from the Omada global product page. It provides 48 Ethernet ports at 10/100/1000 Mbps, every one of them compliant with 802.3at/af PoE+, plus four Gigabit SFP slots for 1000BASE-X multimode or single-mode fibre. TP-Link says users can supply up to 384 W total power to connected devices and flexibly deploy wireless access points, IP cameras and IP phones without the hassle and cost of installing power cabling. TP-Link positions it, with its static routing, enterprise QoS, advanced security and Layer 2 management options, as a strong choice for small and medium-sized businesses.

Because the 384 W budget is shared across 48 ports, it averages 8 W per port with every port loaded; it comfortably powers a floor of IP phones and cameras, while a deployment of many 30 W access points should be planned against the budget. The sibling S5500-48GP4XF raises the budget to 500 W and swaps the four Gigabit SFP slots for 10G SFP+ slots. Performance on the S5500-48GP4F is 104 Gbps switching capacity and 77.4 Mpps forwarding, with a 16K MAC table, 12 Mbit packet buffer and 9 KB jumbo frames. It is a 440 x 330 x 44 mm rack-mountable switch with three fans and an internal 100-240 V AC 50/60 Hz supply. Maximum power consumption is 464.2 W and maximum heat dissipation 1584.08 BTU/hr at 110 V/60 Hz with 384 W of PDs connected. Certification is CE and FCC.

Its L2+ routing supports 32 IPv4/IPv6 interfaces, 48 static routes, 316 ARP entries with static, proxy and gratuitous ARP, a DHCP server, DHCP relay and DHCP L2 relay. Layer 2 features include static and 802.3ad LACP link aggregation (up to 8 groups of 8 ports), STP/RSTP/MSTP with TC protect, BPDU filter and protect, root protect and loop protect, port and VLAN-based loopback detection, HOL blocking prevention and mirroring. VLANs scale to 4K groups with 802.1Q, MAC, protocol, voice and OUI-based VLANs, GVRP and QinQ (port-based and selective). Multicast supports 511 IGMP groups with IGMP v1/v2/v3 snooping, querier and authentication, MVR, MLD v1/v2 snooping and multicast filtering. TP-Link also lists features developed with service providers in mind: DDM, sFlow, ERPS, L2PT, PPPoE ID insertion and IGMP authentication, plus 802.3ah Ethernet link OAM and DLDP for monitoring and troubleshooting links.

Security includes 512-entry IP-MAC-Port binding and IPv6-MAC-Port binding, DHCP and DHCPv6 snooping, ARP inspection, ND detection and snooping, IPv4 and IPv6 Source Guard (100 entries each), DoS defend, DHCP filter, port security up to 64 MAC addresses per port, storm control, port isolation, L2 to L4 and IPv6 ACLs including time-based ACLs, and 802.1X with VLAN assignment, MAB, guest VLAN and RADIUS or AAA including TACACS+. QoS offers 8 queues with SP, WRR or SP+WRR scheduling and flow-based rate limiting. It is managed by web GUI, CLI through console port or telnet, HTTPS and SSH, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, RMON, DHCP auto install, dual image and configuration, password recovery and remote packet capture. Through an Omada Pro software or cloud-based controller it adds cloud access, the Omada app, Zero-Touch Provisioning (cloud-based controller) and Intelligent Anomaly Detection. In the box are the switch, a power cord, an installation guide, a rackmount kit and rubber feet.

384 W total, shared across all 48 PoE+ ports.

Yes. Although it is sometimes listed simply as a 48-port managed Gigabit L2+ switch, TP-Link's model is a 48-port PoE+ switch with every RJ45 port supporting 802.3at/af.

The S5500-48GP4XF has 4 x 10G SFP+ slots instead of Gigabit SFP, a 500 W budget instead of 384 W and 176 Gbps switching capacity instead of 104 Gbps.

Yes, L2+ static routing with 48 static routes and 32 IPv4/IPv6 interfaces, plus DHCP server, DHCP relay and DHCP L2 relay.

No. It can be fully managed standalone by web GUI, CLI, SNMP and RMON. Centralised cloud management and the Omada app use an Omada Pro controller, and Zero-Touch Provisioning requires the cloud-based controller.

Yes, three fans. It is a 440 x 330 x 44 mm rackmount switch.

DDM, sFlow, ERPS, L2PT, QinQ, PPPoE ID insertion, IGMP authentication, 802.3ah Ethernet link OAM and DLDP.
