The TP-Link S5500-48GP4XF is an Omada Pro 48-port PoE+ Gigabit L2+ managed switch with 4 x 10G SFP+ slots. All 48 RJ45 ports are 802.3at/af PoE+ with up to 30 W each and a 500 W total budget. It delivers 176 Gbps switching, static routing, ERPS, QinQ and ISP features, and is managed by web, CLI, SNMP or an Omada Pro controller.

S5500-48GP4XF overview

The S5500-48GP4XF is TP-Link's Omada Pro 48-port PoE+ Gigabit L2+ managed switch with 4 SFP+ slots, hardware version V1. TP-Link describes it as a fully enterprise-level managed switch for enterprises, MDUs, hotels and ISPs. It has 48 x 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, every one of them 802.3at/af PoE+, plus 4 x 10 Gbps SFP+ slots, an RJ45 console port and a Micro-USB console port.

Its two defining numbers are the PoE budget and the 10G uplinks. The 48 PoE+ ports supply up to 30 W each from a 500 W total budget, so a full floor of wireless access points, IP cameras and IP phones can be powered without separate power outlets. TP-Link notes the PoE budget is based on laboratory testing and is not guaranteed. The four SFP+ slots deliver non-blocking performance with minimal latency to servers and other switches. Switching capacity is 176 Gbps with a 130.94 Mpps forwarding rate, a 16K MAC table, 12 Mbit packet buffer and 9 KB jumbo frames. This is where it differs from the S5500-48GP4F, which shares the 48 PoE+ ports but has a 384 W budget, four Gigabit SFP slots and 104 Gbps switching.

The switch runs from 100-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz, with three fans in a rack-mountable chassis of 440 x 330 x 44 mm. Maximum power consumption is 49.19 W with no PDs connected and 635.70 W with 500 W of PDs connected (110 V/60 Hz); maximum heat dissipation is 167.85 BTU/hr idle and 2169.2 BTU/hr at full PoE load. Operating temperature is 0 to 40 degrees C. In the box are the switch, a power cord, an installation guide, a rackmount kit and rubber feet.

Software features follow the Omada Pro S5500 L2+ platform. L3 features include 16 IPv4/IPv6 interfaces, 48 static routes, 512 ARP entries, proxy and gratuitous ARP, DHCP server, DHCP relay and DHCP L2 relay. L2 covers static and LACP link aggregation (8 groups of up to 8 ports), STP, RSTP and MSTP with BPDU and loop protection, HOL blocking prevention, port and CPU mirroring and up to 1,000 IGMP groups with IGMP and MLD snooping, querier and MVR. VLAN support includes 4K groups, MAC, protocol and private VLAN, GVRP, voice VLAN, QinQ, VLAN mapping, VLAN replace and OUI-based VLAN. ISP features include 802.3ah OAM, L2PT, DLDP, PPPoE ID insertion, DDM, ERPS and sFlow. Management is via web GUI, CLI over console or Telnet, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, RMON and dual image, or centrally through the Omada Pro software or cloud-based controller with the Omada app, cloud access and Intelligent Anomaly Detection; Zero-Touch Provisioning requires the Omada Pro cloud-based controller.
