The TP-Link S5500-24GP4F is an Omada Pro 24-port PoE+ Gigabit L2+ managed switch with 24 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, all 802.3at/af PoE+, a 250 W total PoE budget and four Gigabit SFP slots. It offers 56 Gbps switching capacity, static routing, ERPS, QinQ, IPv6, advanced security and QoS, a 1U rackmount chassis with internal 100-240 VAC power, and centralised cloud management through the Omada Pro controller.

S5500-24GP4F overview

The S5500-24GP4F is TP-Link's Omada Pro 24-port PoE+ Gigabit L2+ managed switch with 4 SFP slots, hardware version V1. TP-Link states it provides 24 Ethernet ports (10/100/1000 Mbps) compliant with 802.3at/af PoE, so you can supply up to 250 W of total power to connected devices and deploy wireless access points, surveillance cameras and IP phones quickly without separate power runs. Four Gigabit SFP slots accept 1000BASE-X multimode or single-mode fibre modules for uplinks or links to other switches. TP-Link notes the PoE budget is calculated from laboratory testing and the actual budget will vary with client limitations and environmental factors. Facts on this page are taken from TP-Link's global Omada product page, as an Australian page for this model was not available when we checked.

Performance is 56 Gbps switching capacity, a 41.7 Mpps forwarding rate, an 8K MAC address table, 4.1 Mbit packet buffer and 9 KB jumbo frames. The 1U chassis measures 440 x 220 x 44 mm (17.3 x 8.7 x 1.73 in), is rack mountable with the included rackmount kit and uses two fans. Power is an internal 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz supply with a power cord in the box. Maximum consumption is 301.1 W and maximum heat dissipation 1027.4 BTU/h, both measured at 110 V / 60 Hz with 250 W of powered devices connected. Operating temperature is 0 to 50 degrees C.

Layer 3 features cover 32 IPv4/IPv6 interfaces, static routing with 48 static routes, 316 ARP entries, static, proxy and gratuitous ARP, DHCP server, DHCP relay and DHCP L2 relay. L2 features include static and 802.3ad LACP link aggregation (up to 8 groups of 8 ports), STP, RSTP and MSTP with TC protect, BPDU filter and protect, root protect and loop protect, port- and VLAN-based loopback detection, 802.3x flow control and head-of-line blocking prevention. Multicast support is 511 IGMP groups across IPv4 and IPv6, IGMP v1/v2/v3 snooping with fast leave, querier and IGMP authentication, MVR, MLD v1/v2 snooping and multicast filtering with 256 profiles. VLAN options include 4K VLAN groups, 802.1Q, MAC VLAN (12 entries), protocol VLAN, GVRP, voice VLAN, OUI-based VLAN and VLAN VPN (port-based and selective QinQ).

TP-Link built several features with service providers in mind: ERPS ring protection, L2PT (Layer 2 Protocol Tunnelling), QinQ, PPPoE ID insertion and IGMP authentication, while 802.3ah Ethernet Link OAM and Device Link Detect Protocol (DLDP) make link monitoring and fault detection easier. Security includes IP-MAC-Port binding (512 entries), DHCP snooping, ARP inspection, IPv4 and IPv6 source guard (100 entries each), IPv6-MAC-Port binding, DHCPv6 snooping, ND detection and snooping, DoS defend, DHCP filter, port security with up to 64 MAC addresses per port and storm control in kbps, ratio or pps modes. ACLs cover MAC, IP, IPv6 and combined rules applied to ports or VLANs, with time-based policies and mirror, redirect, rate-limit and QoS-remark actions. QoS offers 8 priority queues, 802.1p CoS and DSCP, SP, WRR and SP+WRR scheduling and port or flow-based rate limiting.

Management options are the web GUI, CLI through the console port or Telnet, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, RMON groups 1, 2, 3 and 9, LLDP/LLDP-MED, DHCP auto install, dual image and dual configuration, cable diagnostics, EEE, password recovery and remote packet capture. Under Omada Pro, the switch is managed by the Omada Pro cloud-based or software controller, with cloud access, the Omada app and Intelligent Anomaly Detection; Zero-Touch Provisioning requires the Omada Pro cloud-based controller. Compared with the larger S5500-48GP4F, which has 48 PoE+ ports and a 384 W budget, the S5500-24GP4F suits closets with up to 24 powered devices. In the box are the switch, a power cord, an installation guide, a rackmount kit and rubber feet.
