Professional Overview

The Ruijie RG-AP820-L(V3) is the AX3000 refresh of the AP820-L, built on a newer Wi-Fi 6 chipset that supports 160 MHz channel width and lifts the aggregate rate to 2.976 Gbps. Where the V2 optimises for client count, the V3 optimises for per-client throughput: a single 160 MHz channel on 5 GHz gives a modern laptop or phone roughly double the peak rate of an 80 MHz channel.

Transmit power is also higher — up to 26 dBm per radio, 23 dBm per chain, subject to Australian regulatory limits — which combined with 5 dBi built-in antennas on both bands gives noticeably better coverage per AP than the V2 in open-plan and warehouse spaces. Client capacity is 256 associations, appropriate for the typical office, classroom or retail floor rather than for stadium density.

Using 160 MHz channels in practice needs planning. In Australia the 5 GHz band supports only a small number of non-overlapping 160 MHz channels, and several of them fall in DFS ranges where the AP must yield to radar. The V3 is the right choice where a handful of APs each need maximum throughput; where many APs must coexist on one floor, running it at 80 MHz and relying on its higher transmit power and newer chipset still leaves it ahead of the V2.

Management matches the rest of the enterprise range: per-SSID authentication, encryption and VLAN mapping, bridge VLAN support, SSID hiding, allowlists and static and dynamic blocklists, driven from Ruijie Cloud, the Eweb interface, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, console, Telnet, SSH or TFTP. Power is 12.95 W from 802.3af PoE or 48 V DC. The housing is 220 x 220 x 49 mm, 0.6 kg plus a 0.2 kg bracket, IP41 rated and specified from −10°C to +50°C with a 200,000-hour MTBF. This is a 2.4/5 GHz dual-band access point and does not use the 6 GHz band. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.
