Professional Overview

The MikroTik RB5009UPr+S+IN is a remarkably powerful and versatile router designed to be a central hub for advanced home labs, small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs), and complex networking environments. At its core, it is driven by a robust quad-core ARM CPU clocked at 1.4 GHz, ensuring exceptional packet forwarding rates and efficient handling of intricate routing tables, extensive firewall rules, and high volumes of network traffic.

Connectivity is comprehensive, featuring seven 1 Gigabit Ethernet ports, one 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port for connecting high-speed devices like NAS or advanced workstations, and one 10 Gigabit SFP+ port for ultra-fast fiber uplinks to core switches or upstream providers. This combination ensures no connectivity bottlenecks exist across your network infrastructure.

The PoE capabilities are highly flexible but important to understand correctly. For PoE input, 802.3af/at standard PoE is supported only on Ether1 (the 2.5GbE port) with both Mode A and Mode B. Ports Ether2-Ether8 support passive PoE input using Mode B (pins 4,5 positive and 7,8 negative) only. For PoE output, all eight ports can deliver power with a combined budget of 130W and up to 25W per port. To achieve 802.3af/at compliant PoE output, the router must be powered with 44-57V input; otherwise, it delivers passive PoE at the same voltage as the input supply.

The device features triple redundant power inputs via a standard DC jack, a 2-pin terminal block, and PoE-in, ensuring maximum uptime. The router reserves 20W for its own operation, with the remaining power budget available for PoE devices. Running MikroTik RouterOS (License Level 5), administrators gain full control over advanced routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), robust stateful firewall capabilities, Quality of Service (QoS), comprehensive VPN support, and extensive VLAN management.
