The Mercusys MA530 is a Bluetooth 5.4 nano USB adapter that makes a non-Bluetooth PC or laptop Bluetooth-capable. It measures 19.15 x 14.94 x 7.19 mm, can connect up to seven Bluetooth devices at the same time, supports Bluetooth Low Energy and works with devices on earlier Bluetooth versions. Supported systems are Windows 11, 10, 8.1 and 7; Windows 7 needs the driver from the Mercusys download centre.

MA530 overview

The MA530 is Mercusys's Bluetooth 5.4 nano USB adapter. Its job is simple: plug it into a USB port and a PC or laptop that has no Bluetooth of its own can pair with Bluetooth devices. Mercusys lists game controllers, headphones and keyboards among the accessories it is meant for, and says Bluetooth improvements give the MA530 greater range for device-to-PC transmission, with faster speeds for moving files, music and videos between your Bluetooth devices and the computer. Bluetooth 5.4 builds on earlier releases with improved reliability and compatibility, according to Mercusys. Its footnote explains that new features introduced across Bluetooth Core Specification 5.0, 5.3 and 5.4 include twice the speed and four times the coverage of Bluetooth 4.2.

The adapter is ultra-small at 19.15 x 14.94 x 7.19 mm. Mercusys pitches it as a plug-in-and-forget design for home and on-the-go use: once in the USB port it can stay there without the worry of it falling out and getting lost. Up to seven Bluetooth devices can be connected at the same time. Bluetooth Low Energy support is listed to minimise power consumption, and the MA530 works with devices that support earlier Bluetooth versions, so older accessories are not left behind.

Windows support is broad. Mercusys says the MA530 fully supports Windows 11 with backwards compatibility for Windows 10, 8.1 and 7. On Windows 7 you need to install the driver from the Mercusys download centre, and Mercusys publishes guidance for the case where Windows 7 cannot verify the digital signature of its driver software. Certain features, including Bluetooth 5.4 itself, may be restricted on some operating systems and platforms, and the driver may need updating after an operating system update. The adapter is rated for 0 to 40 °C at 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity, and the package holds the Bluetooth 5.4 Nano USB Adapter (MA530) and a quick installation guide. ARC IP Networks lists the MA530 version 1.20 details published on the Mercusys Australia site.
