The TP-Link Tapo H500 CentralHub brings Tapo cameras and smart devices together: up to 16 Tapo cameras or video doorbells and 64 Tapo sensors, buttons and Sub-1G switches. It records to 16 GB built-in eMMC plus one 2.5-inch SATA HDD/SSD bay up to 16 TB (drive sold separately) without cloud fees, processes AI locally, adds person, vehicle and pet detection to non-AI Tapo cameras and facial recognition to AI-enabled ones, and protects recordings with AES 128-bit and TLS 1.2 encryption. A 110 dB alarm doubles as a doorbell chime, and an HDMI port shows up to four live views on a TV.

The TP-Link Tapo H500 CentralHub connects and manages up to 16 Tapo cameras or video doorbells and 64 Tapo Sub-G sensors, buttons and switches. It records to 16 GB of built-in storage and a 2.5-inch SATA HDD/SSD bay up to 16 TB (drive sold separately) with no monthly fees, adds facial recognition to connected Tapo cameras, and has a 110 dB alarm and chime, two-way audio and HDMI output.

Tapo H500 overview

TP-Link's AU page titles the Tapo H500 the CentralHub; its packaging and some Tapo sensor pages call it the Tapo HomeBase. It centralises the cameras and IoT devices in a Tapo home: up to 16 Tapo cameras or video doorbells and up to 64 Tapo IoT devices (sensors, buttons and Sub-1G switches), with a compatibility list published by TP-Link. It connects to Tapo cameras over 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and to your router either over 5 GHz Wi-Fi or a wired 10/100 Mbps Ethernet connection. Sub-1 GHz devices use 920.9 MHz, 921.7 MHz and 922.3 MHz in Australia. TP-Link says Matter support applies to specific device types based on the H500's compatibility.

Storage is the headline. The H500 has 16 GB of built-in eMMC storage and a single bay for a 2.5-inch SATA HDD or SSD of up to 16 TB, so connected cameras record to the hub instead of individual microSD cards or cloud subscriptions. TP-Link notes the drive is purchased separately, that actual capacity depends on the size and type of drive, and that the available built-in storage may be less than 16 GB because of system resource allocation. Up to 4 connected cameras can use 24/7 modes (continuous recording for wired models or continuous capture for battery models); additional cameras use motion or event-based clip recording. TP-Link's retention table, based on four Tapo C410 cameras at 4MP, shows a 1 TB drive holding about 20 days of 24/7 recording and a 4 TB drive about 81 days, with event recording calculated at 3.5 triggers a day of 30 seconds each; it says actual times vary with compression, frame rate and recording conditions.

The H500 processes AI on the hub, which TP-Link says keeps sensitive data off the cloud. It enables person, vehicle and pet recognition on non-AI Tapo cameras, and with AI-enabled cameras adds facial recognition and Smart Playback, with TP-Link quoting up to 99% detection accuracy; its footnote states the AI enhancement currently supports a maximum of 4 cameras at once. Facial recognition can alert you only when an unrecognised face appears, or focus notifications on specific people. Recordings are protected by AES 128-bit and TLS 1.2 encryption, and optional two-factor authentication blocks unauthorised access. Daily security reports, tags and event retrieval make footage easy to find, with live view, playback and download in the Tapo app.

Around the house, a built-in 110 dB alarm alerts you to intruders and acts as a chime when connected to Tapo smart doorbells, and two-way audio through an integrated microphone and speakers lets you talk to visitors detected by a camera or doorbell. The HDMI port connects the hub to a TV or monitor and supports up to four combined video streams without individual channel control. A 3D dashboard is available in the Tapo app on a tablet, which is purchased separately; TP-Link says the hub works independently and does not need a tablet for core functions. Ports include HDMI, DC power, one 10/100 Mbps Ethernet WAN port, USB-A for data transfer and USB-C for charging, with reset, answer/SYNC, decline/mute and volume buttons. The H500 measures 160.20 x 98.82 x 83.21 mm, runs from a 12 V 2 A adapter, operates from 0 to 40 °C, and is listed with CE and RCM certification. In the box are the Tapo H500, a power adapter, screws, an Ethernet cable and a quick start guide.
