Why choose the HS-TF-L2-128

The Hikvision HS-TF-L2-128 is the straightforward way to add on-camera recording to a Hikvision IP camera. Fitted in the camera’s microSD slot it can hold continuous or event recordings locally — as primary storage for a standalone camera, or as backup storage that keeps recording if the network or NVR goes down.

It is a 128 GB microSDXC card rated Class 10, U3 and V30, with up to 95 MB/s read and 50 MB/s write. Hikvision designs the L2 series for light-duty, backup and simpler recording scenarios and optimises it for its own storage system, so it pairs naturally with Hikvision and HiLook cameras.

In a Hikvision camera, two extra functions switch on: health monitoring and life forewarning, which estimates remaining life from usage history and bad-block count and warns you before the card wears out, and a read-write lock that stops anyone who removes the card from reading or writing it in another device. Supplied by ARC IP Networks as genuine Australian stock.

Best for

  • Standalone cameras: record locally without an NVR.
  • NVR backup: keep recording on the camera if the network or recorder drops out.
  • Remote sites: local storage where bandwidth is limited.
  • Event recording: motion and smart-event clips stored on the camera.
  • Hikvision & HiLook cameras: health monitoring and read-write lock built in.

Professional Overview

The Hikvision HS-TF-L2-128 is a 128 GB card from the L2 series of Hikvision microSD cards made specifically for video surveillance. It is a microSDXC card rated Class 10, U3 and V30, with maximum read and write speeds of 95 MB/s and 50 MB/s, built on TLC NAND flash and optimised for Hikvision’s storage system for broad compatibility with Hikvision and HiLook cameras.

Hikvision positions the L2 series as its cost-effective card for light storage, backup storage and recording scenarios with lower intensity or a relatively simple environment. Typical uses are on-camera recording for a standalone camera, local backup alongside an NVR, and event or smart-detection clip storage at the edge.

When used in a Hikvision camera the card gains two functions: a S.M.A.R.T.-style health and life-forewarning mechanism that estimates remaining usable life from usage history and bad blocks and warns before failure, and a read-write lock that prevents the card being read or written by anyone who removes it. Hikvision also describes the card as waterproof, shockproof, X-ray proof and resistant to high and low temperatures, with an operating range of 0 to 70 °C.

Before buying, check the maximum microSD capacity your camera supports in its datasheet — many Hikvision cameras accept up to 256 GB and some up to 512 GB — and format the card in the camera before first use. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

How much recording does it hold?

Recording time depends on the camera’s bitrate, not the card. As a guide, continuous recording at a constant bitrate on this card gives roughly:

  • 2 Mbps stream: about 132 hours (5.5 days) of continuous recording
  • 4 Mbps stream: about 66 hours (2.8 days) of continuous recording
  • 8 Mbps stream: about 33 hours (1.4 days) of continuous recording

Estimates only, calculated from capacity and bitrate (about 93% usable space after formatting). Event-only recording, H.265+ and lower frame rates extend this considerably; once full the camera normally overwrites the oldest footage.

Choose your capacity

All L2-series cards share the same Hikvision functions, temperature range and size. Larger cards hold more footage and have faster maximum write speeds.

Complete your system

Fit this card to a Hikvision or HiLook camera with a microSD slot. Confirm the camera’s maximum supported capacity in its specifications, then format the card in the camera (or via the NVR / Hik-Connect) before recording.

Works with your system

Edge storage plus NVR. Many Hikvision cameras and NVRs support ANR (automatic network replenishment): if the link to the recorder drops, the camera records to its microSD card and the footage can be sent back to the NVR once the connection returns. Check your camera and NVR support it.

Hikvision IP cameras

Health monitoring and read-write lock are available in Hikvision cameras.

HiLook cameras

HiLook by Hikvision cameras with a microSD slot.

Hik-Connect app

Review on-card recordings remotely on iOS and Android.

Hikvision NVRs

Use the card as edge backup alongside an NVR.

Card readers

Standard microSDXC / UHS-I readers (unless the read-write lock is enabled).

Other devices

Any microSDXC UHS-I host; Hikvision-only functions will not be available.

Frequently asked questions

It is a standard microSDXC UHS-I card, so it works in cameras and devices that accept microSDXC. Check your camera’s datasheet for its maximum supported capacity — if the camera supports only up to 256 GB, a 512 GB card will not be recognised.

It depends on the camera’s bitrate. As an estimate, a 4 Mbps continuous stream fills 128 GB in roughly 66 hours. Event-only recording lasts much longer, and the camera normally overwrites the oldest footage when the card is full.

It is rated Class 10, U3 and V30, with up to 95 MB/s read and 50 MB/s write — far more than a surveillance camera stream needs.

In a Hikvision camera the card can estimate its remaining life from usage history and bad blocks and warn you before it wears out. The read-write lock prevents anyone who removes the card from reading or writing it in another device.

Hikvision positions the L2 series for light storage, backup storage and lower-intensity recording. It is well suited to standalone cameras, NVR backup and event recording. Hikvision does not publish an endurance (TBW) rating for the L2 series in its specification.

The operating range is 0 °C to 70 °C and storage is −25 °C to 85 °C. Note the camera’s own operating range may differ; in sub-zero locations check both.

Yes — format it in the camera (via the web interface, NVR or Hik-Connect) before first use so the camera can initialise it for recording.
