The TP-Link ES224G is an Omada 24-port Gigabit easy managed switch. Twenty-four 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports share 48 Gbps of switching capacity and a 35.7 Mpps forwarding rate, with an 8K MAC table, 4 Mbit buffer and 15 KB jumbo frames. It has no PoE and no SFP slots. Features include plug-and-play setup, MTU, port-based and 802.1Q VLAN, port isolation, cable test, port-based/802.1p/DSCP QoS, IGMP v1/v2/v3 snooping, loop prevention, static link aggregation and port mirroring. The fanless metal case (294 x 140 x 44 mm, 1.26 kg) has an internal 100-240 V AC supply and mounts on a desk or in a rack, with maximum consumption of 11.4 W. Omada cloud-based, hardware or software controllers add centralised management.

The TP-Link ES224G is an Omada 24-port Gigabit easy managed switch without PoE. It has twenty-four 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, 48 Gbps switching capacity, VLAN, port isolation, cable test, QoS, IGMP snooping and loop prevention, a fanless metal case for desktop or rack mounting with an internal power supply, and centralised cloud management through an Omada controller.

ES224G overview

The ES224G is TP-Link's Omada 24-port Gigabit easy managed switch, shown on the AU page as hardware version V1.20. It has twenty-four 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports with auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX, and no PoE or SFP ports, making it a straightforward way to connect a room full of desktops, printers, NVRs or a patch panel to the rest of the network. TP-Link describes it as easy to use: it supports plug-and-play for instant connectivity and simple configuration for additional features. The datasheet lists IEEE 802.3i, 802.3u and 802.3ab Ethernet, 802.3x flow control, 802.1p, 802.1q and 802.1ab LLDP.

Switching capacity is 48 Gbps, enough for all 24 Gigabit ports at full duplex, with a 35.7 Mpps packet forwarding rate, an 8K MAC address table, a 4 Mbit packet buffer, 15 KB jumbo frames and store-and-forward transmission. Because it has no PoE, power draw is low: the datasheet lists standby consumption of 6.0 W and maximum consumption of 11.4 W (110 V/60 Hz), with maximum heat dissipation of 38.66 BTU/hr and an MTBF of 400,770 hours at 25 °C. That is why the ES224G can be fanless for silent operation even in a 24-port chassis.

TP-Link highlights VLAN, port isolation, cable test and QoS for reliable surveillance networking, together with automatic loop prevention and IGMP snooping. VLAN options are MTU VLAN, port-based VLAN and 802.1Q tag VLAN with up to 32 VLAN groups and 4K VIDs. Port-based, 802.1p and DSCP QoS with 8 priority queues, WRR scheduling and queue weight configuration are supported in Standalone Mode, and VLAN QoS in Controller Mode. Bandwidth control, port-based rate limiting and storm control (broadcast, multicast and unknown-unicast, in kbps or pps) are included. Other L2 features are static link aggregation (the datasheet lists up to four groups and up to eight ports per group), loopback detection, 802.3x flow control, port mirroring, port and traffic statistics, LLDP and IGMP v1/v2/v3 snooping with fast leave.

Out of the box the ES224G is managed through a web-based GUI, with DHCP client and cable diagnostics. For centralised cloud management via the web or the Omada app it works with an Omada cloud-based controller, Omada hardware controller or Omada software controller, which add automatic device discovery, batch configuration, batch firmware upgrading and unified configuration. Cloud access and the Omada app require the use of an Omada controller, and zero-touch provisioning requires the Omada Cloud-Based Controller. TP-Link says it works with Omada Central Essentials for free and easy cloud management of access points, switches and gateways.

The case is durable metal for desktop or rack mounting, measuring 294 x 140 x 44 mm (11.6 x 5.5 x 1.7 in) with a net weight of 1.26 kg, and it has a physical security lock slot. The power supply is internal (100-240 V, 50/60 Hz), so there is no external adapter. Surge protection is ±6 kV in common mode on the Ethernet ports, with ESD protection of ±8 kV air and ±4 kV contact. It operates from -5 to 50 °C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity and is CE and FCC certified. In the box are the ES224G, power cord, rubber feet, mounting brackets, screws and installation guide.
