The TP-Link EAP725-Outdoor is an Omada BE3600 dual-band Wi-Fi 7 access point for outdoor areas such as garages, swimming pools and farms. It combines internal directional antennas (13.2 dBi with 45° beamwidth on 5 GHz, 8.3 dBi with 90° on 2.4 GHz) with detachable external omnidirectional antennas, and can switch between them in software, with auto-sensing when antennas are changed. Wi-Fi 7 features including Multi-Link Operation, Multi-RUs and 4K-QAM deliver up to 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. One 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port takes 802.3at PoE+, and the IP66 enclosure with 6 kV lightning protection and -30 to 70 °C rating suits harsh sites, with pole and wall mounting kits included.

The TP-Link EAP725-Outdoor is an Omada BE3600 dual-band Wi-Fi 7 indoor/outdoor access point with both internal directional antennas and detachable external omnidirectional antennas, switchable in software. It delivers up to 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz with MLO and 4K-QAM, has an IP66 enclosure, one 2.5 Gbps port powered by 802.3at PoE+, Bluetooth 5.2, and Omada SDN with mesh and roaming.

EAP725-Outdoor overview

The EAP725-Outdoor is TP-Link's Omada dual-band business-grade Wi-Fi 7 indoor/outdoor access point. In Australia it is listed as BE3600, with signal rates of 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz; TP-Link's global datasheet describes the same model as BE5000 for the US and BE3600 for the EU, so the AU unit follows the EU-style rate. It supports IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be with four streams across two bands, and Wi-Fi 7 technologies including Multi-Link Operation (MLO), Multi-RUs and 4K-QAM, which TP-Link says significantly enhance throughput, connection stability and concurrent capacity. TP-Link notes that maximum signal rates are physical rates derived from the IEEE 802.11 specifications, and actual throughput, coverage and connected devices will vary.

Its most distinctive feature is the antenna system. The EAP725-Outdoor has internal directional antennas and detachable external omnidirectional antennas, and you can freely switch between directional and omnidirectional modes through software for the best signal control at each site. Plug-and-play auto-sensing detects antenna changes and switches between internal and external antennas as needed. On 2.4 GHz the external omni antennas are 2 x 4.5 dBi and the internal directional antennas 2 x 8.3 dBi with a 90° beamwidth; on 5 GHz the omni antennas are 2 x 5.3 dBi and the directional antennas 2 x 13.2 dBi with a 45° beamwidth. Directional mode is useful for aiming coverage down a long yard, paddock or pool area, while omni mode suits open spaces around the mounting point.

The housing is rated IP66, which TP-Link says protects against heavy rain, dust and harsh weather, and the datasheet adds 6 kV lightning protection and a grounding terminal. It operates from -30 to 70 °C with 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity. The main unit measures 208 x 160 x 55 mm and weighs 1.33 kg, and the box includes a mounting kit for pole or wall installation, a waterproof kit and an installation guide. Four green LEDs on the side show uplink signal strength, which helps when aiming the directional antennas. A Bluetooth 5.2 radio is built in.

Power and data run over a single 10M/100M/1000M/2.5G Ethernet port powered by 802.3at PoE+, with maximum consumption of 18.4 W. Because the port is 2.5 Gbps, the AP can use more than Gigabit backhaul when connected to a 2.5G PoE+ switch port. Wireless functions include 16 SSIDs (eight per band), band steering, load balance, airtime fairness, beamforming, rate limits, WMM QoS, automatic channel assignment and transmit power control, with a datasheet maximum of 256 associated stations. Security covers captive portal authentication, access control, MAC filtering, client isolation, SSID-to-VLAN mapping, rogue AP detection, 802.1X and WPA, WPA2, WPA3 Personal/Enterprise and OWE.

For management, Omada SDN identifies the EAP725-Outdoor automatically for one-click adoption, and it integrates with Omada cloud-based, hardware and software controllers and the Omada app for centralised cloud management. Cloud access requires an Omada controller, zero-touch provisioning requires the Omada Cloud-Based Controller, and Omada mesh, 802.11k/v/r seamless roaming and captive portal work with a controller. It can also be managed standalone through the web interface, SSH and SNMP v1/v2c/v3. The datasheet lists Omada Controller and Omada Essential V5.15 and above and Omada App V4.25 and above. Listed certifications are CE, FCC, IC, NCC, VCCI, JRF and BSMI.
