The TP-Link Deco X50-DSL(3-pack) is an AX3000 VDSL whole home mesh Wi-Fi 6 system built around the Deco X50-DSL, which combines a built-in VDSL/ADSL modem with dual-band Wi-Fi 6 rated at 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. The Deco X50-DSL has a DSL port, four gigabit auto-sensing Ethernet ports, HomeShield security and WPA3-Personal, managed in the Deco app.

Deco X50-DSL(3-pack) overview

The Deco X50-DSL is TP-Link's AX3000 VDSL mesh Wi-Fi 6 modem router, and the Deco X50-DSL(3-pack) builds a whole home mesh system around it. TP-Link's pitch is less hassle and more coverage: with a built-in VDSL/ADSL modem, Wi-Fi 6 and TP-Link Mesh technology in one device, it says the X50-DSL saves on DSL modem equipment while delivering a whole-home Wi-Fi experience. The DSL port is compatible with VDSL2, ADSL2+, ADSL2 and ADSL. VDSL2 standards listed are ITU G.993.2 up to the 35b profile (POTS), ITU-T G.993.5 (G.vector) and ITU-T G.998.4 (G.INP), and TP-Link states the gateway supports Super VDSL with internet downlink speeds of up to 350 Mbps. ADSL support covers full-rate ANSI T1.413 Issue 2, ITU-T G.992.1 (G.DMT) and G.992.2 (G.Lite), ADSL2 to ITU-T G.992.3 and ADSL2+ to ITU-T G.992.5.

On the wireless side, the Deco X50-DSL is dual band Wi-Fi 6 (IEEE 802.11ax/ac/n/a on 5 GHz and 802.11ax/n/b/g on 2.4 GHz) with Wi-Fi speeds of 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz using 802.11ax, which TP-Link sums up as speeds up to 3,000 Mbps for 4K streaming, cloud gaming and video calls. Capacity is rated as high, with dual-band distribution of devices, MU-MIMO and OFDMA for communicating with multiple clients simultaneously, and four streams. Two internal antennas form a signal-boosting array, and CE transmission power is listed at up to 20 dBm on 2.4 GHz and 23 dBm on 5 GHz. Mesh features in TP-Link's comparison table include IEEE 802.11k/v/r, true seamless roaming, Adaptive Path Selection, band steering, AP steering and self-healing, with optional Ethernet backhaul to link Deco units.

Each Deco X50-DSL unit has four gigabit Ethernet ports with WAN/LAN auto-sensing and a reset button, and the working modes listed are DSL, Router and Access Point. Supported WAN types are Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, L2TP, PPTP, PPPoA, IPoA and DS-Lite, alongside IPv4 and IPv6. Security includes an SPI firewall, access control and HomeShield, with real-time IoT protection, a malicious site blocker, an intrusion prevention system, DDoS attack prevention and a home network scanner listed. Wi-Fi encryption covers WPA-Personal, WPA2-Personal and WPA3-Personal, and separate guest networks are available on 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz. TP-Link says the feature kit lets you protect sensitive data and limit the access of kids and guests.

Setup uses the Deco app: unbox Deco, install the app and follow the on-screen directions, and TP-Link says the network will be up and running in minutes. From the app you can manage Wi-Fi at home or away, see every connected device, prioritise your own and set up a guest network, and the dashboard shows the working status of your network. Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control are supported, and the X50-DSL is compatible with every other Deco model, so coverage can be extended later. Other software features include HomeShield QoS and QoS by device, IPTV (IGMP proxy, IGMP snooping, bridge and tag VLAN), port forwarding, UPnP, DHCP address reservation, TP-Link DDNS and OTA firmware upgrades. The Deco X50-DSL measures 105 x 105 x 167 mm, carries CE and RCM certification and operates at 0 to 40 degrees C. ARC IP Networks supplies the Deco X50-DSL(3-pack) from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
