The Cisco AIR-CAB002-D8-R= in depth

Legacy antennas on the 9130AXE

The Catalyst 9130AXE has an 8-port Smart Antenna (DART) connector. This 2 ft breakout converts it to eight RP-TNC jacks so existing Aironet antennas with gains up to 6 dBi can be used, with the access point running in legacy antenna mode.

Choosing the right cable

Use the AIR-CAB002-D8-R= for RP-TNC antennas and the AIR-CAB003-D8-N= for N-type antennas up to 13 dBi. Cisco notes the 4-port DART adapter for the 9120AXE is not compatible with the 9130AXE.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the Cisco AIR-CAB002-D8-R= from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.

Cisco lists it for the Catalyst 9130AXE, to connect antennas with RP-TNC connectors to the access point's 8-port DART connector.

Cisco states it is for conventional (non-DART) antennas with gains up to 6 dBi.

Cisco's reference guide lists 2 dB at 2.4 GHz and 2.3 dB at 5.8 GHz.

No. The 9120AXE uses the 4-port AIR-CAB-002-DART-R= adapter, which Cisco says is not compatible with the 9130AXE either.

Cisco notes that with the breakout cables and legacy dual-band antennas, the BLE radio experiences that antenna's 2.4 GHz gain.
