Internet backup used to be a project. Ubiquiti just made it an accessory. The U5G is a slim 5G RedCap antenna that plugs into any UniFi PoE port, sits on a desk or sticks to a window, and gives your gateway an automatic cellular failover path — SIM or eSIM. In Australia, UniFi cellular devices are supplied by ARC IP Networks, an authorised Ubiquiti reseller — genuine stock, full manufacturer warranty.
What is the U5G?
A 200 mm wand with a status display, a GbE port and a 5G RedCap modem inside. One PoE cable from a UniFi switch powers it; your UniFi gateway treats it as a backup WAN. When the fixed line fails, traffic fails over automatically — and fails back when service returns. RedCap keeps it small, cool and PoE-friendly, because a failover link doesn't need multi-gigabit 5G; it needs to be there.
Who needs it
EFTPOS keeps working through an NBN outage — the outage customers never notice.
VoIP, cloud apps and cameras stay reachable while the fixed line is down.
A window-mounted link where fixed internet is slow to arrive.
A standard failover SKU for every site, visible in the same UniFi console.

Frequently asked questions
The UniFi U5G is a compact PoE-powered 5G RedCap antenna that plugs into any UniFi PoE port and gives your network automatic cellular internet backup — with a nano-SIM slot and eSIM, a status display, and desk, wall and window mounting included.
RedCap (reduced capability) is a lighter, more power-efficient class of 5G designed for devices that don't need multi-gigabit speeds. For a failover link that's ideal: the U5G stays PoE-powered and affordable while providing enough bandwidth to keep a site online when the fixed line drops.
It connects to your UniFi gateway as a WAN interface over Ethernet: when your primary NBN or fibre connection fails, the gateway fails over to the U5G's cellular link automatically, and back again when the primary returns.
The U5G is a RedCap device purpose-built as a compact backup link; the U5G Max (and its outdoor version) is a full-capability 5G modem for higher-bandwidth cellular connectivity, suited to primary or high-throughput links as well as backup.
