The TP-Link VIGI C250(2.8mm) is a 5MP full-colour dome network camera with the wide 2.8 mm F1.6 lens, covering 109 degrees horizontally with published detection at 64 m and identification at 6 m. A 1/2.7-inch sensor with 120 dB WDR records up to 2880 x 1620, one white LED and one IR LED reach 30 m, and it adds AI detection rules, a built-in microphone, microSD recording, IK10 and IP67 ratings, and PoE or 12 V DC power.

VIGI C250(2.8mm) overview

This VIGI C250 carries the 2.8 mm lens, the wide-angle choice for TP-Link's 5MP full-colour dome. At F1.6 it delivers the broadest view in the C250 range: 109 degrees horizontal, 57 degrees vertical and 128 degrees diagonal. The trade-off is reach, with TP-Link's DORI figures for this lens at detect 64 m, observe 27 m, recognise 13 m and identify 6 m. Resolution tops out at 2880 x 1620 from a 1/2.7-inch progressive scan CMOS, and a sub-stream of up to 704 x 576 runs alongside. If the image is rotated 90 or 270 degrees, TP-Link notes the frame rate is limited to 20 fps.

For low light the C250 uses what TP-Link calls a large-aperture lens, high-sensitivity sensor and attached supplemental lights to keep footage colourful through the night. It has a single white LED and a single 850 nm IR LED, each reaching 30 m, and both can be set to auto, a schedule, always on or always off. Minimum illumination is 0.005 lux without light, falling to 0 lux with IR or white light. A 120 dB wide dynamic range handles scenes that mix bright and dark areas, and SmartVid adds 3D DNR, Smart IR and night vision processing, supported by BLC and HLC, image parameter switching and an SNR of at least 52 dB.

TP-Link builds human and vehicle classification into the camera's AI chips and supports detection rules set in advance, which it says reduce false alarms. Configurable events are area intrusion, line-crossing, region entering and exiting, people and vehicle detection, loitering, object abandoned, object removal, abnormal sound and scene change, with motion detection, video tampering and illegal-login alerts as basic events. When an event fires the camera can record to its memory card, send a push notification or flash its white light. People and Vehicle Analytics for attribute-based search is listed too, though TP-Link footnotes it as in development and due in future software updates.

Installation is flexible: the cable can be routed into a dropped ceiling or taken out through the side outlet without drilling, and the bracket pans 0 to 360 degrees and tilts 0 to 85 degrees. The plastic housing is rated IK10 and IP67 and operates from -30 to 60 degrees C. Power is PoE (listed as 802.3at, class 0) or 12 V DC through a 5.5 mm coaxial plug, with a 7 W maximum. The 115 mm diameter dome weighs 0.28 kg. Local recording uses a microSD slot, which the specifications list at up to 512 GB (card not included), and the camera can be managed from the web UI, a VIGI NVR, the VIGI app or VIGI Security Manager, or added to an ONVIF Profile S recorder.
