The Ubiquiti UBB-XG Building-to-Building Bridge XG delivers high-speed wireless connectivity between buildings using a 60 GHz primary radio capable of 6 Gbps throughput over distances up to 500 metres. This makes it ideal for campus networks, multi-building offices, and distributed enterprise sites where running fibre between structures is impractical or cost-prohibitive.

The dual-radio architecture sets the UBB-XG apart from single-radio alternatives. The 60 GHz primary link provides near-fibre speeds with 21 dBi antenna gain, while the integrated 5 GHz backup radio (866.6 Mbps, 14 dBi gain) ensures automatic failover if the 60 GHz link is disrupted by heavy rain or other environmental factors. The 10G SFP+ port delivers maximum wired throughput, with a GbE RJ45 port available for management or lower-bandwidth connections.

Built for outdoor deployment, the UBB-XG features IPX6 weatherproofing with an aluminum alloy and UV-resistant polycarbonate enclosure rated for -40 to 55°C operation. Wind loading is rated at 56 N at 200 km/h, and the stainless steel mount supports pole diameters from 25 to 63.5 mm. Built-in LED alignment indicators simplify installation, and the unit draws a maximum of 29W via PoE++ or passive PoE at 48V DC.

Fully managed through the UniFi Network application, the UBB-XG integrates seamlessly into existing UniFi deployments for centralised monitoring and configuration. At just 1.7 kg (2.9 kg with mount) and ⌀191.8 x 59 mm in dimension, it maintains a low-profile installation footprint. Available from Australian stock at ARC IP Networks with genuine local warranty.

Ubiquiti UBB-XG: WiFi 5 access point

The Building-to-Building Bridge XG is a UniFi WiFi 5 access point with 2 spatial streams and a rated coverage area of 500 m (1,640 ft).

On the wired side it is powered by PoE++ Passive PoE, and draws at most 29W.

It carries a IPX6 rating, so unlike an ordinary indoor AP it can be mounted outside under normal Australian conditions. Read the rating literally: it covers water, not immersion, and it is not a reason to site the unit where it will sit in standing water.

These are modulation-coding-scheme ceilings measured at the radio, not speeds a client will see. Real throughput depends on the client's own radio, the channel width you can actually use, distance and how much of the band your neighbours are already occupying. Our UniFi access point comparison puts the range side by side.

Who the UBB-XG suits

  • Building-to-building links where trenching fibre is impractical
  • Campuses, farms and multi-shed sites needing a gigabit-class hop
  • Temporary or leased sites where cabling cannot be installed
  • Links with clear line of sight between the two mounting points

Management and requirements

ManagementEthernet Bluetooth

Like every UniFi access point, the UBB-XG is adopted and managed by a UniFi controller — a Cloud Gateway or Dream Machine, a Cloud Key, or UniFi hosting. The AP does not run the controller itself, and it is not a standalone router: it provides the WiFi, while routing, firewall and VLANs live on the gateway.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the UBB-XG?

The Building-to-Building Bridge XG is a UniFi WiFi 5 access point with 2 spatial streams and a rated coverage area of 500 m (1,640 ft).

What area does the UBB-XG cover?

500 m (1,640 ft) is the published figure. Coverage in a real building depends on what the signal has to pass through: plasterboard costs little, double brick, foil-backed insulation and concrete cost a great deal.

How is the UBB-XG powered?

PoE++ Passive PoE over the Ethernet run, drawing up to 29W, within a supported voltage range of 48V DC ± 10%.

Can the UBB-XG be used outdoors?

It is rated IPX6, so it is built for outdoor mounting. Treat the rating literally — it covers water, not immersion.

Does the UBB-XG need a UniFi controller?

Yes. UniFi access points are adopted and managed by a controller — a Cloud Gateway, Dream Machine, Cloud Key or UniFi hosting. The AP supplies the WiFi; routing, firewall and VLANs live on the gateway.

Is the UBB-XG available in Australia?

Yes. ARC IP Networks is an authorised Ubiquiti reseller holding Australian stock with full manufacturer warranty and fast domestic shipping.
