The TP-Link VIGI C340(2.8mm) is the wide-angle version of VIGI's 4MP outdoor full-colour bullet network camera. Its 2.8 mm F1.6 lens covers 102.5 degrees horizontally, the widest of the three C340 lenses, with published detection at 64 m and identification at 6 m. Two white LEDs keep night images in colour to 30 m, and it adds two IR LEDs, human and vehicle classification, two-way audio, IP67 protection and PoE.

VIGI C340(2.8mm) overview

Of the three lenses VIGI offers on the C340, the 2.8 mm is the wide one, and that is the lens on this camera. At F1.6 on an M12 mount it takes in 102.5 degrees across, 55.2 degrees top to bottom and 122.1 degrees on the diagonal. The trade-off for that coverage is reach: VIGI's DORI figures for the 2.8 mm lens are 64 m to detect, 27 m to observe, 13 m to recognise and 6 m to identify. Picture quality is 4MP, at up to 2560 x 1440, from a 1/3-inch progressive scan CMOS sensor.

VIGI's tagline for the C340 is "All the colours, all the time". Two white supplemental LEDs reach 30 m so the scene stays in colour after dark, and two 850 nm IR LEDs with the same 30 m range sit alongside them, with an IR-cut filter handling day and night switching. VIGI rates minimum illumination at 0.005 lux, and 0 lux once IR or white light is on. You can leave the lights on auto, set a schedule, or force them always on or off. DWDR improves dynamic range and detail in varied lighting, together with BLC, HLC, 3D DNR, Smart IR and an SNR of at least 52 dB.

Video is encoded in H.265+, H.265, H.264+ or H.264. The main stream offers 2560 x 1440 down to 1280 x 720 at 256 Kbps to 4 Mbps, and the sub-stream 640 x 480, 352 x 288 or 320 x 240 at 64 to 512 Kbps. Frame rates reach 25 fps (50 Hz) or 30 fps (60 Hz), limited to 20 fps when the picture is rotated to 90 or 270 degrees. Up to four privacy masks and one region of interest can be set.

Classification is built in: the camera tells humans and vehicles apart from other moving objects and uses that to improve motion alerts. Further events include intrusion, line-crossing, entering or leaving a region, abandoned or removed objects and abnormal sound. When an event fires, the camera can record to its memory card, push a message, play an audible warning and flash its white lights, and its microphone and speaker support two-way audio. One RJ45 cable carries 802.3af/at PoE (class 0, max 8 W), or a 12 V DC supply can be used instead (max 7 W). The IP67 plastic body measures 78.5 x 188.0 x 71.5 mm, weighs 0.34 kg and is rated for -30 to 60 degrees C; the manual mount adjusts pan 0 to 360, tilt 0 to 90 and rotation 0 to 360 degrees.
