The TP-Link Tapo P100 is a mini smart Wi-Fi socket for Australian power points, sold here as a single plug. It switches connected devices on and off from the Tapo app or by voice with Alexa and Google Assistant, runs an auto-off timer, scenes and Away Mode, and stays accessible on your local network if the internet drops. It handles up to 2300 W and 10 A and needs no hub.

Tapo P100 overview

The Tapo P100 is TP-Link's mini smart Wi-Fi socket, sold in this listing as a single plug for Australian power points. It turns an ordinary appliance such as a lamp into one you can switch from your phone, by voice or on a timer. Through the Tapo app you instantly turn connected devices on or off wherever you are, which TP-Link says is designed to make life easier and keep your family safe. Simple voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant let you control connected devices without leaving your spot, and Samsung SmartThings is listed as a supported third-party platform.

Local control is built in: devices on your local area network remain accessible through the Tapo app even when the household goes offline. The auto-off timer turns a connected device off automatically after it has been left on for a set time, which TP-Link says saves energy and reduces fire risk. Scenes control multiple devices at once to set the ambience for an activity, and Away Mode turns a plugged-in device such as a lamp on and off to make it look like someone is home. Management permissions can be shared with family members in the Tapo app.

TP-Link built the P100 smaller so it avoids blocking adjacent sockets, and it measures 76.5 x 43.5 x 42 mm. The housing is UL94-V0 flame-retardant PC, which TP-Link says is flame retardant up to 750 °C, and the AU page states the plug underwent quality inspections to receive RCM certification. Setup uses Bluetooth onboarding, which TP-Link says makes setup simpler with connection within 20 seconds. Bluetooth is used for setup only; day-to-day control is over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

Electrically the P100 is rated at 220-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz, with a maximum load of 2300 W, 10 A or a 1/10 HP motor. Wireless is IEEE 802.11b/g/n on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only, plus Bluetooth for setup. It has a power button and a status LED, and TP-Link lists an operating range of 0 °C to 35 °C at 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity. Unlike the Tapo P110, the P100 does not include energy monitoring.
