The TP-Link SG5428XMPP is an Omada 24-port gigabit stackable Lite L3 managed PoE++ switch with 4x 10G slots. Ports 1 to 8 are 802.3bt PoE++ with up to 90 W each and ports 9 to 24 are PoE+ up to 30 W, sharing a 500 W budget with Fast and Perpetual PoE. It stacks up to 4 switches, routes with static routes, RIP and OSPF, and is managed through Omada SDN or standalone.

SG5428XMPP overview

The SG5428XMPP is TP-Link's Omada 24-Port Gigabit Stackable Lite L3 Managed PoE++ Switch with 4x 10G Slots, hardware version V1. TP-Link describes it as a dependable entry-level L3 managed PoE++ switch tailored for the access layer. It has twenty-four 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, of which ports 1 to 8 are 802.3af/at/bt PoE++ delivering up to 90 W per port and ports 9 to 24 are PoE+ delivering up to 30 W per port, plus four 1/10 Gbps SFP+ slots, a USB 2.0 port, an RJ45 console port and a USB Type-C console port.

The total PoE budget is 500 W, shared across all 24 PoE ports, with Fast PoE and Perpetual PoE. That makes the 90 W ports suitable for 802.3bt devices, while the 16 PoE+ ports cover standard access points, surveillance cameras and IP phones, which TP-Link says can be set up quickly without the cost of installing power cabling. Maximum consumption is 587.7 W at 220 V/50 Hz (615.8 W at 110 V/60 Hz) with 500 W of PDs connected, and the switch uses three fans in a 440 x 330 x 44 mm rackmount chassis with an internal 100 to 240 V AC supply.

Up to 4 switches can be physically stacked using the 10G SFP+ slots (all uplink ports can be stacking ports), with up to 80 Gbps of stacking bandwidth. Each unit provides 128 Gbps switching, 95.23 Mpps forwarding, a 16K MAC table, a 12 Mbit buffer and 9 KB jumbo frames. Lite L3 features include up to 128 IPv4/IPv6 interfaces, up to 512 IPv4 static routes, RIP v1/v2, OSPF v2/v3, static and dynamic ARP (512 / 3,600 entries), proxy ARP, and a DHCP server with up to 64 IP pools and DHCP relay. ERPS protects ring topologies, and security covers IPv4/IPv6 ACLs, Dynamic ARP Inspection, 802.1X, MAB, port security and SSH.

It integrates with Omada SDN through the Omada Cloud-Based, Hardware or Software Controller for centralised cloud management and zero-touch provisioning, and can also be managed standalone. Operating temperature is -5 to 45 °C. In the box: the switch, a power cord, a console cable, rackmount kits, rubber feet and a quick installation guide.
