The TP-Link SG5428XF is an Omada Campus 24-port SFP stackable Lite L3 managed switch with 4x 10G slots, designed for the aggregation layer. It has 20 gigabit SFP slots, 4 gigabit RJ45/SFP combo ports and 4 1/10 Gbps SFP+ slots, physical stacking of up to 4 switches, 128 Gbps switching per unit, and L3 routing with static routes, RIP and OSPF, plus ERPS, ACL, 802.1X and Omada SDN management.

SG5428XF overview

The SG5428XF is TP-Link's Omada Campus 24-Port SFP Stackable Lite L3 Managed Switch with 4x 10G Slots, hardware version V1. TP-Link describes it as a dependable entry-level L3 switch tailored for the aggregation layer, which is why almost every port is fibre: 20 100/1000 Mbps SFP slots, 4 gigabit RJ45/SFP combo ports and 4 1/10 Gbps SFP+ slots. It also has a USB 2.0 port, an RJ45 console port and a USB Type-C console port.

Stacking is built in. Up to 4 switches can be physically stacked, using the 10G SFP+ slots as stacking ports (all uplink ports can be used for stacking), with up to 80 Gbps of stacking bandwidth across 4 stacking ports. TP-Link says this adds built-in redundancy and performance. Each unit delivers 128 Gbps switching capacity, a 95.23 Mpps forwarding rate, a 16K MAC table, a 12 Mbit buffer and 9 KB jumbo frames.

The Lite L3 feature set includes up to 128 IPv4 and 128 IPv6 interfaces, up to 512 IPv4 and 128 IPv6 static routes, RIP v1/v2 and RIPng, OSPF v2/v3, proxy ARP, and a DHCP server with up to 64 IP pools, plus DHCP relay. For availability it supports ERPS (Ethernet Ring Protection Switching) for rapid recovery in ring topologies, as well as link aggregation and spanning tree, and L2 extras such as RSPAN, IGMP and MLD snooping and MVR. Security functions include IPv4 and IPv6 ACLs, Dynamic ARP Inspection, IEEE 802.1X, MAB, port security and Secure Shell.

In an Omada SDN network the SG5428XF is managed from an Omada Cloud-Based Controller (5.15.22 or later) or Hardware/Software Controller (5.15.20 or later), with centralised cloud management and zero-touch provisioning; it can also be managed standalone. It has one fan, an internal 100 to 240 V AC supply and a 440 x 220 x 44 mm rackmount chassis, drawing a maximum of 28.3 W at 220 V/50 Hz. Operating temperature is -5 to 45 °C. The box contains the switch, power cords, a console cable, rackmount kits, rubber feet and a quick installation guide; SFP and SFP+ modules are not included.
