The TP-Link TL-SG1016 is a 16-port gigabit rackmount switch: sixteen 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, 32 Gbps switching capacity, a 23.8 Mpps forwarding rate, isolation mode, loop prevention and 802.1p/DSCP QoS. It is fanless, runs from 100-240 VAC mains power and comes with rackmount kits.

TL-SG1016 overview

The TL-SG1016 is a 16-port gigabit rackmount switch that TP-Link lists in its Omada unmanaged switch range. It has sixteen 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, each with auto-negotiation and Auto MDI/MDIX. The standards and protocols TP-Link lists are IEEE 802.3i, IEEE 802.3u, IEEE 802.3ab, IEEE 802.3x and IEEE 802.1p. For cabling, TP-Link specifies UTP category 3, 4 or 5 cable (up to 100 m) for 10BASE-T, and UTP category 5, 5e or above (up to 100 m) for 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T, so a standard Cat5e or better run of up to 100 m is within specification for gigabit connections on every port.

Performance figures come from TP-Link's published specifications. Switching capacity is 32 Gbps and the packet forwarding rate is 23.8 Mpps, with store-and-forward transmission, an 8K MAC address table and 10 KB jumbo frames. Although TP-Link lists the TL-SG1016 in its unmanaged range, it carries several advanced features. Isolation Mode is available on ports 1 to 14, loop prevention is available on ports 1 to 16, and 802.1p/DSCP QoS is supported. TP-Link also lists green technology among its performance features.

Physically the TL-SG1016 is a 440 x 140 x 44 mm (17.3 x 5.5 x 1.7 in) rack-mountable unit, and the rackmount kits are included in the box together with rubber feet. It is fanless and has a physical security lock. Power is supplied by mains at 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, through the included power cord, rather than an external adapter. TP-Link lists a maximum power consumption of 10.68 W at 220 V / 50 Hz and a maximum heat dissipation of 36.31 BTU/h. The switch carries FCC and CE certification.

TP-Link rates the TL-SG1016 for operation from 0 to 40 °C (32 to 104 °F) at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, and for storage from -40 to 70 °C (-40 to 158 °F) at 5 to 90% non-condensing humidity. In the box are the 16-Port Gigabit Rackmount Switch, a power cord, an installation guide, rackmount kits and rubber feet. If you are comparing it with the TP-Link DS1016G, the table below sets the two spec sheets side by side. ARC IP Networks supplies the TL-SG1016 from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
