The TP-Link TL-SG1008P is an 8-port Gigabit unmanaged desktop switch with four 802.3af/at PoE+ ports sharing a 64 W PoE budget. It has 16 Gbps switching capacity, an 11.904 Mpps forwarding rate, a 4K MAC table, 16 KB jumbo frames, 802.1p/DSCP QoS and IGMP snooping, with intelligent power management, a sturdy metal case and a fanless design.

TL-SG1008P overview

The TL-SG1008P is TP-Link's 8-port Gigabit desktop switch with four PoE ports. TP-Link's AU title calls it 8-port with 4-port PoE; the specifications list ports 1 to 4 as 802.3af/at compliant, which means they support both standard PoE and PoE+ powered devices. All eight RJ45 ports run at 10/100/1000 Mbps with auto-negotiation and auto-MDI/MDIX, so ports 5 to 8 are available for an uplink and for devices that do not need power. The AU product page shows hardware version 7.

The four PoE ports share a 64 W total power supply. When total power consumption exceeds 64 W, TP-Link's intelligent power management cuts power to the lower-priority port, ensuring that higher-priority ports keep their supply and protecting the switch from overload. TP-Link lists the switch as compatible with IEEE 802.3af/at compliant PDs, which covers IP cameras, IP phones and access points. Unlike the TL-SG1005P and TL-SG1006PP, TP-Link does not list Extend Mode or PoE Auto Recovery for the TL-SG1008P.

Performance figures reflect the eight Gigabit ports: 16 Gbps switching capacity and an 11.904 Mpps packet forwarding rate, a 4K MAC address table, 16 KB jumbo frames and store-and-forward transmission. MAC address auto-learning and auto-aging, IEEE 802.3x flow control, 802.1p/DSCP QoS and IGMP snooping are listed as advanced features. Cabling for 1000BASE-T is UTP category 5, 5e, 6 or above, or EIA/TIA-568 100 ohm STP, up to 100 m.

Power is supplied by an external adapter with an output of 53.5 VDC / 1.31 A, included in the box with the installation guide. Maximum power consumption is 5.39 W with no PD connected and 75 W with 64 W of PDs connected (220 V/50 Hz), and maximum heat dissipation is 18.38 BTU/h and 225.75 BTU/h respectively. TP-Link describes a sturdy, compact metal casing with shielded RJ45 ports and a desktop design, and the fanless design ensures quiet operation. A physical security lock is listed.

The case measures 171 x 98 x 27 mm (6.7 x 3.9 x 1.1 in). The TL-SG1008P is rated for 0 to 40 degrees C operation and -40 to 70 degrees C storage, with 10 to 90% RH operating and 5 to 90% RH storage humidity, non-condensing, and is CE and FCC certified. If you need an 802.3bt port, the TL-SG1006PP has the same 64 W budget with PoE++ on port 1; if you only need five ports, the TL-SG1005P has a 65 W budget.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the TL-SG1008P from the ARC IP Networks team.

Last reviewed October 2026.

Ports 1 to 4 are 802.3af/at compliant, so they support both PoE (802.3af) and PoE+ (802.3at) devices. TP-Link's own title says 4-port PoE.

64 W in total across the four PoE ports.

Four, ports 1 to 4. Ports 5 to 8 are standard Gigabit ports.

Intelligent power management cuts power to the lower-priority port so higher-priority ports stay powered and the switch is protected.

TP-Link does not list either for this model. The TL-SG1005P and TL-SG1006PP list both.

16 Gbps, with an 11.904 Mpps forwarding rate and a 4K MAC address table.

Yes. It has a fanless design in a sturdy metal case.

No. It is unmanaged and plug and play.
