The TP-Link VIGI NVR1008H-8MP is an 8-channel PoE+ network video recorder whose eight 10/100 Mbps PoE+ ports share a 113 W PoE budget, more than double the 53 W of the NVR1008H-8P. It records up to 8MP at 80 Mbps incoming bandwidth, takes one SATA drive of up to 16 TB (not included), and outputs 4K over HDMI plus VGA.

VIGI NVR1008H-8MP overview

The VIGI NVR1008H-8MP is the higher-power version of TP-Link's 8-channel PoE+ VIGI recorder. Its eight RJ-45 10/100 Mbps PoE+ ports, compliant with 802.3at and 802.3af, share 113 W, with up to 30 W available on any single port. TP-Link notes PoE budget calculations are based on laboratory testing and that the actual budget is not guaranteed and will vary with client limitations and environmental factors. To deliver the larger budget, the 8MP uses a 53.5 V DC 2.43 A supply, where the NVR1008H-8P uses 1.31 A for its 53 W.

In other respects the two are listed identically. The 8MP accepts eight IP channels with 80 Mbps incoming and 60 Mbps outgoing bandwidth and records from 8MP down to QCIF. Decoding is listed at 25 fps as two channels at 8MP, four at 4MP or eight at 2MP, and at 30 fps as four at 3MP or two at 5MP. Eight channels can play back synchronously, with TP-Link noting fewer than eight, or none, may play if total resolution exceeds 16MP. HDMI reaches 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz and VGA 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz simultaneously, with one, four, six or eight window layouts.

One SATA interface supports a drive of up to 16 TB; TP-Link states the HDD is not included. Auto Initialize then configures basic IPC and hard disk parameters in one click. Recording modes are manual, scheduled and motion detection, with instant, regular, tag and event playback, and backups as regular or video clip. The network protocol list on the 8MP page is longer than on the NVR1008H-8P and NVR1008H pages: UPnP, NTP, SMTP, DNS, TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, HTTP, HTTPS, DHCP, RTSP, SSL/TLS, RTP, IPv4, ARP, FTP/SFTP, IPv6 and SNMP. Interoperability is ONVIF Profile S/T and CGI.

The chassis is 294 x 180 x 44 mm, weighing 1.12 kg net and 2.2 kg gross, and comes with mounting brackets and rubber feet, HDD screws, a mouse, power adapter and quick installation guide. There is one 10/100 Mbps uplink, two USB 2.0 ports and 1-channel RCA audio in and out. Smart alarms, which require a camera, cover line-crossing, intrusion, loitering, vehicle and human detection, abnormal sound and Smart Frame. Maximum power consumption is 2.38 W without a disk and 12.94 W with a disk. Working temperature is -10 to 55 degrees C for the NVR.
