The TP-Link ISM311LS is a 1000BASE-LX single-mode industrial SFP module. It runs at 1.25 Gbps on 1310 nm over 9/125 um single-mode fibre for up to 20 km, with a duplex LC/UPC connector, Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM), SFP-MSA compatibility and hot-swap support. It is rated for industrial operation from -40 to 85 degrees C.

ISM311LS overview

The ISM311LS is TP-Link's 1000BASE-LX SMF industrial SFP module. TP-Link describes it as an industrial SFP module introduced for extending transfer distance: attached to TP-Link's industrial switches, the ISM311LS can extend the distance to 20 km, and TP-Link notes that users can choose whether and which fibre modules to use according to demand in order to lower cost. It is a single-mode SFP LC transceiver built to IEEE 802.3z, carrying a 1.25 Gbps data rate (Gigabit Ethernet) at a 1310 nm wavelength over 9/125 um single-mode fibre, with a maximum cable length of 20 km.

The ISM311LS uses an LC duplex port with duplex LC/UPC connectors, so a link uses two fibres: one to transmit and one to receive, both at 1310 nm. That is the practical difference from TP-Link's ISM321B-20, which is a WDM bi-directional module that uses a single LC simplex fibre and must be paired with an ISM321A-20. With the ISM311LS, the far end needs another 1000BASE-LX single-mode module on a duplex fibre pair. TP-Link lists a maximum laser output power of 0.794 mW (-1 dBm) and classifies the module as a Class 1 laser product. It is powered from the host slot at 3.3 V.

For monitoring and maintenance, the ISM311LS supports Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM), which lets a compatible host switch report the module's optical and operating values. It is compatible with the Small Form Pluggable Multi-Source Agreement (SFP-MSA) and is hot swappable, which TP-Link describes as hot-pluggable with maximum flexibility, so modules can be fitted or replaced without powering down the switch. Certifications are FCC and CE.

Industrial temperature rating is what sets the ISM311LS apart from standard office SFP modules. TP-Link rates it for operation from -40 to 85 degrees C (-40 to 185 degrees F) and storage over the same range, with 5 to 85% RH operating and storage humidity, non-condensing, which suits outdoor cabinets, roadside enclosures and plant rooms. The module measures 56.4 x 13.4 x 10.97 mm (2.22 x 0.53 x 0.43 in) on the datasheet; the product page rounds this to 56.4 x 13.4 x 11.0 mm. The box contains the ISM311LS and an installation guide.
