The TP-Link EAP668-Outdoor HD is a high-density Omada AX3600 Wi-Fi 6 access point for outdoor and indoor use: 4x4 MU-MIMO with 1148 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz, 1000+ concurrent clients listed, a 10G SFP+ slot, a 2.5G PoE-in port and a gigabit PoE+ out port, all inside an IP68 housing rated from -40 to 70 °C.

EAP668-Outdoor HD overview

The EAP668-Outdoor HD is TP-Link's AX3600 Omada access point for outdoor spaces where a lot of people connect at once. Both radios are four-stream: 4x4 MU-MIMO on uplink and downlink, with signal rates of 1148 Mbps at 2.4 GHz and 2402 Mbps at 5 GHz. TP-Link's disclaimer explains these are maximum physical rates from the IEEE 802.11 standard, and that real throughput, coverage and device counts depend on the environment, network conditions and the clients themselves. MU-MIMO gains also need client devices that support MU-MIMO.

Capacity is the headline. The AU page lists 1,000+ concurrent clients and the datasheet highlights support for up to 1,024 devices; TP-Link adds that actual capacity depends on the wireless environment and client traffic and is generally less than the maximum number of connections. Up to 16 SSIDs (eight per band) separate user groups, and band steering, load balance, airtime fairness, beamforming and automatic channel assignment help share the radios. The datasheet also lists an LTE filter.

The port set is unusual for an outdoor AP. A 10G SFP+ slot allows a fibre uplink, a 2.5G Ethernet port takes 802.3at or 802.3bt PoE in, and a gigabit port can supply 802.3at PoE out to another powered device, but only when the access point itself is fed by 802.3bt. With 802.3bt input, Type 3 gives 802.3af output and Type 4 gives 802.3at output; on 802.3at input the PoE out is disabled. Maximum consumption is listed as 20.2 W (EU) or 25.4 W (US), not counting the power passed through to the PoE-out device. TP-Link notes its PoE budget figures come from laboratory testing.

The enclosure is rated IP68 and works from -40 to 70 °C, with 10 to 90% non-condensing operating humidity. Lightning protection is listed as ±6 kV common mode, with ±8 kV air and ±4 kV contact ESD protection; TP-Link says protection depends on proper setup, grounding and cable shielding. Four external 6 dBi dual-band omni antennas attach to the 240 x 80 x 312 mm body (2.7 kg, aluminium alloy bottom shell). The included wall and pole kit allows ±45° horizontal adjustment; the APM-110 (±90° vertical, ±45° horizontal) and APM-100 (±45° both ways) brackets are optional and sold separately.

It is managed through Omada SDN using the Omada Cloud-Based Controller, a hardware controller, the software controller or the Omada app, with standalone web, SSH and SNMP v1/v2c/v3 management also available. Omada Mesh, seamless roaming (802.11k/v/r), captive portal and cloud access require an Omada controller. Security options include WPA, WPA2 and WPA3 Personal and Enterprise, a 4,000-entry MAC filter, client isolation, VLANs and rogue AP detection. Bluetooth is built in.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the EAP668-Outdoor HD from the ARC IP Networks team.

Last reviewed October 2026.

TP-Link's AU page lists 1,000+ concurrent clients and the datasheet up to 1,024 devices. TP-Link notes actual capacity depends on the wireless environment and client traffic and is generally lower.

AX3600: 1148 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz, using 4x4 MU-MIMO. These are maximum physical rates; real throughput depends on clients, interference and distance.

One 10G SFP+ slot, one 2.5G Ethernet port that takes PoE in, and one gigabit Ethernet port with PoE out.

The gigabit port supplies 802.3at PoE out only when the AP is powered by 802.3bt. On 802.3bt Type 3 the output is 802.3af, on Type 4 it is 802.3at, and with 802.3at input the PoE out is disabled.

It accepts 802.3at or 802.3bt PoE. Maximum consumption is 20.2 W (EU) or 25.4 W (US), excluding any power delivered through PoE out.

Yes. It is IP68 rated, operates from -40 to 70 °C and lists ±6 kV common-mode lightning protection, which TP-Link says relies on correct grounding and cable shielding.

Four external dual-band omnidirectional antennas, 6 dBi on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, included in the box.

The included wall/pole kit supports ±45° horizontal adjustment. Optional brackets, purchased separately, are the APM-110 (±90° vertical, ±45° horizontal) and APM-100 (±45° vertical and horizontal).

It can be managed standalone through its web interface. Omada Mesh, seamless roaming, captive portal and cloud access require an Omada controller.

The EAP668-Outdoor HD, four external dual-band omni antennas, a mounting kit, a waterproof kit and an installation guide.
