The TP-Link EAP650GP-Desktop is an Omada AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 desktop/wall-mount access point with a built-in GPON fibre uplink, designed for FTTR and FTTH deployments. One SC/APC GPON port (2.488 Gbps down, 1.244 Gbps up, up to 20 km) feeds 2402 + 574 Mbps Wi-Fi 6, four Gigabit RJ45 ports (two with 802.3af PoE-out, 22.4 W total) and an FXS voice port. It runs from a 53.5 V DC supply and is managed with Omada OLTs and controllers.

EAP650GP-Desktop overview

The EAP650GP-Desktop is TP-Link's Omada AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 Desktop GPON Access Point. TP-Link designed it for FTTR and FTTH deployments as part of the Omada Optical Networking Solution, which combines Omada GPON access points, switches, gateways, OLTs (optical line terminals) and ONUs (optical network units) into one gigabit passive optical network. TP-Link positions the solution for point-to-multipoint environments such as hotels and MDUs, where one fibre run per room replaces a bundle of copper cables. Within the solution, all devices support unified management, easy adoption and zero-touch provisioning, and the datasheet notes unified management for the OLT and Omada devices.

The uplink is a single SC/APC GPON port built to ITU-T G.984.x and G.988 with a Class B+ optic. It runs at 2.488 Gbps downstream and 1.244 Gbps upstream over 9/125 um single-mode fibre, with a maximum cable length of 20 km. A front GPON LED shows registration: steady green when the AP is registered with the OLT, flashing green while it is registering, flashing red when no optical signal is received or the signal is too weak, and steady red when the OLT has blocked it. Because the access point itself terminates the fibre, TP-Link describes it as one fibre for multiple services: wired and wireless internet, voice and VoIP, data and HD video.

On the wireless side the EAP650GP-Desktop matches the AX3000 class: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz (HE20/40/80/160) and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz (HE20/40), 2x2 uplink/downlink MU-MIMO on both bands, UL/DL OFDMA, 1024-QAM and beamforming. Internal omnidirectional antennas are two 4.5 dBi elements for 2.4 GHz and three 5 dBi elements for 5 GHz. It supports 16 SSIDs (eight per band), band steering, airtime fairness, load balance, Omada mesh and 802.11k/v/r Layer 2 roaming. TP-Link's product page lists 100+ concurrent clients, while the datasheet lists a maximum of 128 associated stations. Signal rates are physical maximums derived from IEEE 802.11 specifications; real throughput depends on environment and clients.

Wired connections are four 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports and one RJ11 FXS port for an analogue phone or fax. Two of the Ethernet ports (ETH0 and ETH1) supply 802.3af PoE, at 53.5 V and 0.287 A per port with a combined limit of 22.4 W. TP-Link explains the power logic: if total PoE demand exceeds the limit, the lower-priority port shuts down; a port also powers off if its own output exceeds 15.4 W; powered-off ports retry after 10 seconds; and by default ETH0 has priority over ETH1. That is enough for an IP phone or a small camera next to the access point. Unlike the Ethernet-fed EAP650-Desktop, this model does not take PoE in: it is powered by a 53.5 V / 0.81 A DC input, drawing 20 W excluding PoE-out and 5.85 W at idle.

Management works through the Omada Controller V5.15.24 and above and the Omada App V4.25 and above, with standalone web management, SSH, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, NTP, email alerts, restore and backup and LED control also listed. Security covers WPA/WPA2/WPA3 Personal and Enterprise, PPSK with or without RADIUS, 802.1X and MAC authentication, a MAC filter of up to 4000 entries, client isolation, rogue AP detection and captive portal options including voucher, local user, SMS, RADIUS and form authentication. Surge protection on the Ethernet ports is 2.5 kV common mode. The access point measures 175 x 140 x 33 mm, weighs 511 g on the product page, and is rated for 0 to 40 degrees C. Certifications on the AU product page are CE and FCC; the datasheet also lists RCM.

EAP650GP-Desktop compared

The EAP650GP-Desktop and EAP650-Desktop share the AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 radio, the 175 x 140 x 33 mm housing, four Gigabit ports and an FXS port. The difference is the uplink and power: the GP model connects over GPON fibre and runs on 53.5 V DC with two PoE-out ports, while the EAP650-Desktop connects over Ethernet and is powered by PoE or 12 V DC with one PoE-out port.
