The TP-Link Deco X55(3-pack) is an AX3000 whole home mesh Wi-Fi 6 system of three Deco X55 units, which TP-Link rates for 4-6+ bedroom houses with seamless coverage up to 6,500 sq ft. Each unit delivers 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz (HE160) and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and has three gigabit WAN/LAN ports, giving nine across the kit, plus HomeShield security and VPN server and client.

Deco X55(3-pack) overview

This is the three-unit Deco X55 kit, and it is the pack TP-Link headlines on its product page: seamless mesh Wi-Fi coverage up to 6,500 sq ft, rated for 4-6+ bedroom houses. By comparison TP-Link gives the 2-pack up to 4,500 sq ft for 3-4 bedroom houses, so the 3-pack is aimed at large single-level homes, double-storey houses and properties with a detached office or studio. The three units join into one network with a single Wi-Fi name, and TP-Link's 3-pack illustration shows them placed across the floor plan with links between each Deco. If you still find a gap, TP-Link's advice is to add another Deco, since the X55 is compatible with every other Deco model.

Three gigabit Ethernet ports on every unit, all with WAN/LAN auto-sensing, add up to nine ports across the kit. One port on the main Deco takes the internet connection, leaving the remaining ports for wired devices or for Ethernet backhaul to the other two units where cable runs exist; TP-Link lists Ethernet backhaul as optional and says it works together with the wireless links. AI-Driven Mesh learns the network environment, client quality and user behaviour to provide mesh Wi-Fi suited to your home, and node and band connection preferences can pin particular devices to a unit or band. Devices roam between the three units under one Wi-Fi name; TP-Link notes clients need 802.11k/v/r support and may need additional setup.

Every unit is AX3000 dual-band Wi-Fi 6: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz with 802.11ax and HE160 (TP-Link describes HE160 as doubling bandwidth), and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz with 802.11ax. TP-Link quotes up to 3.0 Gbps combined, 2x2 MU-MIMO, OFDMA, four streams, beamforming and BSS Colour to minimise Wi-Fi conflicts, and says the X55 connects over 150 devices, with gaming and 8K streaming among the uses shown. The figures are maximum wireless signal rates derived from IEEE 802.11 specifications; TP-Link states actual throughput, coverage and connected devices vary with network conditions, client limitations and environmental factors. Wi-Fi 6 features also need compatible clients.

Across the whole kit the same feature set applies. HomeShield provides an SPI firewall, access control, real-time IoT protection, a malicious site blocker, an intrusion prevention system, DDoS attack prevention and a home network scanner, and HomeShield parental controls cover YouTube restriction, SafeSearch, profiles, a professional content filter library, Family Time, Bedtime, Off Time, Time Rewards, Pause the Internet and weekly and monthly reports. The system can host an OpenVPN, PPTP or L2TP VPN server and connect out as a VPN client of the same types. A separate IoT network with device isolation, Tapo/Kasa onboarding, static routing, QoS by device, IPTV (IGMP proxy, IGMP snooping, bridge, tag VLAN), guest Wi-Fi with time and bandwidth control, WPA3-Personal and OTA firmware upgrades are also listed. The Deco app sets up and manages all three units, and Amazon Alexa can control the network by voice. The 3-pack box contains three Deco X55 units, one RJ45 Ethernet cable, three power adapters and one quick installation guide. Each unit measures 110 x 110 x 114 mm. TP-Link AU lists hardware versions V1 and V1.30, and these specifications follow the current product page.
