The TP-Link Deco X20(3-pack) is an AX1800 whole home mesh Wi-Fi 6 system of three Deco X20 units, rated by TP-Link for 4-6 bedroom houses with whole home Wi-Fi up to 5,800 sq ft. Each unit carries 802.11ax on both bands at 1201 Mbps (5 GHz) and 574 Mbps (2.4 GHz) and two gigabit WAN/LAN auto-sensing ports, giving six ports across the kit, with HomeShield security and Deco app management.

Deco X20(3-pack) overview

Three Deco X20 units make up this kit, the biggest Deco X20 pack TP-Link sells. TP-Link rates it for 4-6 bedroom houses and, on the 3-pack box, gives whole home Wi-Fi coverage of up to 5,800 sq ft, crediting clearer and stronger signals from BSS Colour and beamforming. That is a step up from TP-Link's 3-4 bedroom rating for the 2-pack and 1-3 bedroom rating for the 1-pack, so this is the X20 kit for long single-storey homes, double-storey houses and homes with a granny flat or rear studio. If even three units leave a gap, TP-Link's advice is simply to add another Deco; any Deco model works with the X20.

With three units, placement is the main job. The first Deco connects to your modem, and the other two go roughly halfway to, and into, the areas that need coverage. TP-Link's mesh links them into one network with a single Wi-Fi name, and AI-Driven Mesh learns the network environment, client quality and user behaviour so the system routes traffic along the best path; TP-Link says you can walk through the home and keep streaming at the fastest speeds available. Optional Ethernet backhaul is supported alongside the wireless links, so any cable runs you already have between rooms can carry traffic between Decos. Seamless roaming between units needs clients that support 802.11k/v/r, and some devices may require additional setup.

Every unit is AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 on both bands: 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, all 802.11ax, using 1024-QAM and two internal antennas with MU-MIMO, OFDMA, beamforming and four streams. TP-Link reports testing the Deco X20 with over 150 connected devices without dragging down performance, and lists cloud gaming, 4K UHD video and video chatting among the uses that benefit from Wi-Fi 6's lower latency. Across the three units you get six gigabit Ethernet ports with WAN/LAN auto-sensing, so wired devices can plug in wherever a Deco sits. TP-Link reminds buyers that these are maximum signal rates from IEEE 802.11 specifications and that real throughput and coverage depend on network conditions, client limitations and building materials.

HomeShield is built in, with an SPI firewall, access control, real-time IoT protection, a malicious site blocker, an intrusion prevention system, DDoS attack prevention and a home network scanner. HomeShield parental controls cover custom profiles, a professional content filter library, Family Time, Bedtime, Off Time, Time Rewards, family online time ranking, Pause the Internet and weekly and monthly reports, and HomeShield QoS with QoS by device helps prioritise traffic in a busy home. Guest networks run on 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz, Wi-Fi encryption includes WPA3-Personal, and the system supports IPTV, port forwarding, UPnP, TP-Link DDNS, IPv6 and OTA firmware upgrades. Setup and day-to-day management happen in the Deco app, and Amazon Alexa can control the system by voice. The 3-pack box contains three Deco X20 units, one RJ45 Ethernet cable, three power adapters and one quick installation guide. Each unit measures 110 x 110 x 114 mm. TP-Link AU lists Deco X20 hardware versions V1 to V5, with these specifications taken from the current product page.
