The TP-Link Deco X20(2-pack) is an AX1800 whole home mesh Wi-Fi 6 system with two Deco X20 units, which TP-Link rates for 3-4 bedroom houses. Each unit has Wi-Fi 6 on both bands (1201 Mbps on 5 GHz, 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz) and two gigabit WAN/LAN auto-sensing ports, and the pair forms one network with AI-Driven Mesh, HomeShield security and Deco app control.

Deco X20(2-pack) overview

The Deco X20(2-pack) gives you two Deco X20 units that work as a single mesh network, and TP-Link rates the pair for 3-4 bedroom houses. That sits between the 1-pack (1-3 bedroom houses) and the 3-pack (4-6 bedroom houses) in TP-Link's range. A typical layout puts the first Deco next to your modem as the router and the second one towards the far end of the home or upstairs, where a single router struggles. Because TP-Link states the Deco X20 is compatible with every other Deco model, the pair can be extended later with any Deco if a room still needs more signal.

How the two units cooperate is the main reason to buy the pack. TP-Link Mesh means the Decos form one unified network with a single Wi-Fi name, and your phone or tablet automatically connects to the faster unit as you walk through the home; TP-Link notes clients need to support 802.11k/v/r and may need extra setup. AI-Driven Mesh learns the network environment, client quality and user behaviour and uses those factors to tune the mesh for your home. Wireless links and optional Ethernet backhaul work together between the units, so if your home already has a cable run between the two locations you can use it to connect them. The 'Wi-Fi Dead Zone Killer' description on TP-Link's page credits BSS Colour and beamforming with clearer, stronger signals across the home.

Each of the two units is AX1800 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 with 802.11ax on both bands, rated at 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. TP-Link says the Deco X20 has been tested to connect over 150 devices without dragging down performance, and that Wi-Fi 6 gives four times the average throughput on connected devices in dense environments compared with the previous generation. Inside are two antennas per unit, with MU-MIMO, OFDMA and four streams. Lower latency is one of the benefits TP-Link highlights for gaming and video chatting when several compatible devices transmit at the same time. These are maximum signal rates from the IEEE 802.11 standard; actual results vary with network conditions, client limitations and the building.

Two gigabit ports on each unit give the 2-pack four Ethernet ports in total, all with WAN/LAN auto-sensing, so the satellite Deco can also feed a wired TV, console or computer in its room. HomeShield covers both units with an SPI firewall, access control, real-time IoT protection, a malicious site blocker, an intrusion prevention system, DDoS attack prevention and a home network scanner, plus HomeShield parental controls and QoS by device. The Deco app sets up both units in turn and then manages the network at home or away, including guest Wi-Fi on 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz. In the 2-pack box are two Deco X20 units, one RJ45 Ethernet cable, two power adapters and one quick installation guide. Each unit measures 110 x 110 x 114 mm and works from 0 to 40 °C. TP-Link AU lists Deco X20 hardware versions V1 to V5; the specifications on this page follow TP-Link's current product page.
