The TP-Link TD25L is a battery or hardwired video doorbell in the Tapo range. Its 1/2.7-inch sensor and 1.18 mm F1.8 lens record 2K 5MP (2560 x 1920) at 15 or 20 fps with a 170.6° horizontal and 140.1° vertical view, with full-colour night vision and IR to 10 m. TP-Link rates the battery at 7 months based on 300 seconds of use a day in its lab testing; hardwired, it records 24/7, though that mode does not support an existing chime. AI detects motion, people, pets, vehicles and packages, and storage is microSD up to 512 GB (purchased separately) or Tapo Care by subscription.

The TP-Link TD25L is a Tapo video doorbell that runs on its rechargeable battery or on existing doorbell wiring, with continuous 24/7 recording in hardwired mode. It records 2K 5MP (2560 x 1920) with a 170.6° horizontal field of view, adds full-colour night vision from built-in spotlights, and identifies people, pets, vehicles and packages on the device. An anti-theft alarm, a 98 dB siren, quick responses with a voice changer and an IP66 rating complete it.

TD25L overview

The TD25L is TP-Link Australia's Tapo video doorbell camera with two ways to power it. On battery it is wire-free, using a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery that TP-Link rates at 7 months; that figure is based on TP-Link's laboratory testing with 300 seconds of use per day, where use includes recording and watching live views, and actual battery life may vary with device settings, usage, router specifications and environmental factors. The page summary quotes up to 8 months on a charge, but the footnoted figure is 7 months. Alternatively the doorbell can be hardwired, which TP-Link says provides continuous 24/7 video recording; TP-Link notes this hardwired mode does not support use of an existing chime.

The camera records 2K 5MP at 2560 x 1920 pixels, at 15 or 20 fps with H.264 compression, and TP-Link describes it as exceeding traditional Full HD. A 1/2.7-inch progressive scan CMOS sensor and 1.18 mm F1.8 lens give a 170.6° horizontal and 140.1° vertical field of view in the specification table, which the overview markets as a 180° head-to-toe view in a 4:3 frame. 3DNR and WDR are applied. Built-in spotlights provide full-colour night vision, and 850 nm IR LEDs reach 33 ft (10 m). TP-Link also says pre-roll footage adds up to 4 seconds of video from just before motion is detected.

Detection uses a single PIR motion sensor with a 130° horizontal field of view and an ambient light sensor, and on-device smart AI identifies people, pets, vehicles and packages, notifying you as needed without a subscription. Activity zones notify you only when activity is detected in specific zones. An anti-theft alarm alerts you if someone tries to take the doorbell off, backed by a dedicated anti-theft button and a 98 dB siren measured at 10 cm.

When a visitor presses the button, doorbell call rings your phone so you can respond without opening the app. From the Tapo app you can talk through two-way audio with noise cancellation and an optional voice changer, or send a recorded quick response when you cannot talk. On supported Alexa and Google Assistant displays you can see what the doorbell sees; TP-Link notes the experience depends on the connected services. Footage can be saved to a microSD card of up to 512 GB (purchased separately) or to Tapo Care cloud storage, subscribed separately.

Installation offers adhesive or screw mounting. The kit includes both a vertical and a horizontal mounting wedge, which TP-Link says suit more placement scenarios and let you adjust the view, plus a jumper for an existing chime, two extension wires, hardwire installation screws and wire nuts for wired installs. The TD25L connects over 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi with WPA/WPA2-PSK and 128-bit AES encryption with SSL/TLS, is rated IP66, operates from -20 °C to 45 °C and charges from 0 °C to 45 °C. The battery pack adapter rating is 5.0 V, 2.0 A output, and the doorbell measures 150 x 50 x 38.4 mm. The Tapo app needs iOS 13.0 or Android 7.0 or later.

TP-Link's package list for the TD25L is the video doorbell, mounting template, mounting bracket, vertical mounting wedge, horizontal mounting wedge, USB adapter cable, jumper for existing chime, two extension wires, three mounting screws and anchors, two hardwire installation screws, doorbell detaching pin, five mounting wedge screws, 3M adhesive, foam pad, two wire nuts and a quick start guide. No indoor chime is listed in the package.
