The TP-Link Tapo L510B is a dimmable smart Wi-Fi light bulb with a B22 bayonet base in the A60 shape. It gives 806 lumens of 2700 K soft warm white light, equivalent to a 60 W incandescent lamp, with a maximum draw of 8.3 W. It connects straight to 2.4 GHz home Wi-Fi with no hub, and you control it with the Tapo app, schedules, presets and Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant voice commands.

Tapo L510B overview

The Tapo L510B is TP-Link's dimmable smart Wi-Fi light bulb with a B22 bayonet base. It uses the A60 bulb shape and measures 115 x 60 mm. Light output is a fixed 2700 K soft warm white, which TP-Link describes as a warm and cosy ambience suited to relaxing and unwinding after a long day. Brightness is 806 lumens, the same as a 60 W incandescent lamp, while the bulb draws a maximum of 8.3 W and 0.4 W in standby. TP-Link lists a weighted energy consumption of 9 kWh per 1000 hours and a rated lifetime of 25,000 hours with 15,000 switching cycles.

Dimming is handled in the Tapo app and through the cloud rather than by a wall dimmer, so you adjust the level from your phone or by voice. Once you find a level you like, for example for watching a movie, you can save it as a preset and recall it with a tap. Schedules turn the L510B on or off at set times and at the brightness you choose, and sunrise and sunset modes switch it automatically according to your time zone. Group control lets you add several smart lights to one group and control them together, while each bulb remains individually accessible.

Voice control works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you can say "Alexa, turn on the light" or "Hey Google, dim my bedroom lights". Away Mode turns the bulb on and off at random to simulate someone being at home while you are travelling. Paired with a Tapo sensor, the L510B can switch on automatically as you walk down a hallway and turn itself off again after a short period. Because it connects directly to your home Wi-Fi, no hub or extra device is needed, and setup is guided step by step in the Tapo app.

On the technical side the L510B uses IEEE 802.11b/g/n on the 2.4 GHz band only and supports WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK and WPA3-SAE Wi-Fi encryption. It runs on 220-240 V AC at 50/60 Hz, reaches 95% brightness in one second or less, has a light beam angle of 220 degrees, a colour rendering index of 80 or higher and colour consistency of 6 SDCM or better. TP-Link lists CE, ERP, SAA, RCM and ETL certifications and an operating range of -15 °C to 40 °C at 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity. The factory default setting is 2700 K at 100% brightness. In the box are the Tapo smart light bulb and a quick start guide.
