The TP-Link TC71 is a Tapo pan/tilt home security Wi-Fi camera with a 2K 3MP (2304 x 1296) image, 360° horizontal pan coverage and 850 nm infrared night vision rated to 40 ft (12 m). It recognises motion, people and baby crying, follows moving subjects, lets you set activity and privacy zones, talks both ways with noise cancellation, and records to microSD (up to 512 GB) or Tapo Care cloud storage with a subscription.

TC71 overview

TP-Link sells the TC71 in Australia as a pan/tilt home security Wi-Fi camera for keeping watch over what matters most at home. Its image is 2K 3MP, a maximum of 2304 x 1296 pixels, which TP-Link shows against a 1920 x 1080 frame to illustrate the extra detail. Behind the 4 mm F2.0 lens sits a 1/2.8-inch progressive scan CMOS sensor, which TP-Link notes is not a starlight sensor. The fixed lens has a 98° diagonal, 83° horizontal and 45° vertical field of view, video is H.264 at 15 fps, and 3D DNR plus WDR help with noise and contrast.

The motorised head is what lets one TC71 cover a whole room. TP-Link quotes a 340° mechanical pan range for 360° pan coverage and a 70° mechanical tilt range for 110.8° tilt coverage in the specifications, while the product summary on the same page states a 114° vertical range. Precise motion tracking keeps the subject within view once activity is detected. After dark, 850 nm infrared LEDs provide night vision up to 40 ft (12 m), which TP-Link pairs with baby crying detection for baby care around the clock.

Alerts on the TC71 come from motion detection, person detection and baby crying detection. You can create multiple custom activity zones around the areas that matter so you control which alerts arrive, and privacy zones block chosen spaces from being recorded at all; TP-Link also lists a customisable privacy mode. The camera delivers system notifications to the Tapo app, and notifications with a snapshot come with Tapo Care services. Two-way audio with noise cancellation runs through the built-in microphone and speaker, and the sound and light alarm is backed by an 88 dB siren, measured at 10 cm.

For storage, the TC71 takes microSD cards of up to 512 GB, and Tapo Care cloud storage is offered with a subscription. Tapo sharing lets you pass clips to family or guests and share the device itself with them. The camera connects via Wi-Fi, supports RTSP and ONVIF, and protects video with 128-bit AES encryption with SSL/TLS and WPA/WPA2-PSK, plus on-device machine learning. Voice control works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, which TP-Link notes are not available in all languages and countries.

The TC71 runs from a 9 V DC power adapter (100-240 V, 50/60 Hz input, 9 V 0.6 A output) and has one reset button and one microSD slot. It can sit on a tabletop or be ceiling-mounted, measures 85.4 x 86.8 x 117.7 mm, and operates between 0 °C and 40 °C at 10% to 90% RH, non-condensing. TP-Link's package lists the TC71 camera, power adapter, quick start guide, mounting screws, mounting template, camera base and mounting anchors.
