The TP-Link TC65 is an IP66 outdoor security Wi-Fi camera from the Tapo line. A 1/2.7-inch sensor and 3.89 mm F2.2 lens record 3MP (2304 x 1296) at 15 fps in H.264, and 850 nm IR LEDs give night vision up to 30 m. It joins the network over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or a 10/100 Mbps RJ45 port, supports RTSP and ONVIF, and offers motion, person, line-crossing, intrusion and tamper detection with a sound and light alarm. Two-way audio has noise cancellation, and footage goes to a microSD card of up to 512 GB or to Tapo Care cloud storage (subscription required).

The TP-Link TC65 is a Tapo outdoor security camera that records 3MP (2304 x 1296) video, sees up to 98 ft (30 m) in total darkness with 850 nm IR, and connects by either 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or its 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port. It is rated IP66, detects motion, people, line crossing, intrusion and tampering, sounds a 91 dB siren with its sound and light alarm, and records to microSD up to 512 GB or to Tapo Care cloud storage by subscription.

TC65 overview

The TC65 is TP-Link Australia's outdoor security Wi-Fi camera in the Tapo family, designed for wall mounting. TP-Link describes its video as ultra-high-definition 3MP, and the maximum resolution is 2304 x 1296 pixels at 15 fps, compressed with H.264. The image comes from a 1/2.7-inch sensor through a lens with a 3.89 mm focal length and F2.2 aperture, and 3D noise reduction (3DNR) and wide dynamic range (WDR) are applied to the picture. For darkness, 850 nm infrared LEDs give a stated visual distance of up to 98 ft (30 m), even in total darkness.

A key point of the TC65 is the choice of connection. Besides IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi on 2.4 GHz (up to 150 Mbps on 802.11n), the camera has a 10/100 Mbps RJ45 Ethernet port, and TP-Link says connecting through Ethernet or Wi-Fi allows more flexible installation. It supports RTSP and ONVIF, and secures connections with 128-bit AES encryption with SSL/TLS and WPA/WPA2-PSK, together with on-device machine learning. The housing is rated IP66, and a waterproof seal and waterproof cable attachments are supplied in the box.

The TC65's AI detection list covers motion, person detection, line-crossing detection, intrusion detection and tamper detection, and you can draw activity zones so only chosen areas raise alerts. Notifications are delivered as system notifications, with snapshot notifications available through Tapo Care services. When it detects movement, the camera can trigger light and sound effects to frighten away unwanted visitors; the siren is rated at 91 dB measured at 10 cm. A built-in microphone and speaker provide two-way audio with noise cancellation.

Storage is local or cloud. TP-Link says the TC65 locally stores up to 512 GB of 3MP video on a microSD card in the camera's slot, offering convenient access to your footage, and Tapo Care cloud storage is available with a subscription. Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice control is supported, subject to TP-Link's note that those assistants are not offered in every language and country. The Tapo app requires iOS 9.0 or Android 4.4 or later.

An included 9 V DC power adapter supplies the camera, rated 9 V at 0.6 A from a 100-240 V, 50/60 Hz input. The camera measures 142.3 x 103.4 x 64.3 mm, has a reset button and a system LED, and carries CE, FCC and RCM certifications. TP-Link's specification page lists two different operating temperature ranges for the TC65 (0 °C to 40 °C in one table and -20 °C to 45 °C in another), so check the conditions at your site against the lower figure. The TC65 box contains the camera, power adapter, mounting anchors, mounting screws, mounting template, waterproof seal, waterproof cable attachments and a quick start guide.
