The TP-Link TC60 is a Tapo home security Wi-Fi camera that records 1080p Full HD video, sees up to 30 ft in the dark with 850 nm IR LEDs, and notifies you with a video clip when it detects motion inside zones you choose. It can trigger a sound and light alarm, has two-way audio and a privacy mode, and stores locally on a microSD card of up to 512 GB after updating to the latest firmware.

TC60 overview

The TC60 is TP-Link's home security Wi-Fi camera in the Tapo range, sold in Australia under its own model name. It has a 1/3.2-inch image sensor and a 3.3 mm lens at F2.0, and it records and streams 1080p Full HD video compressed with H.264. TP-Link says 1080p definition provides more clarity and sharpness thanks to a higher number of pixels, which helps with identification and recognition from far away. For low light, 850 nm infrared LEDs provide night vision up to 30 ft, so you can watch over sleeping children from your phone instead of cracking open their door.

Motion detection is the TC60's trigger for alerts. When the camera detects movement it sends a push notification and lets you see a video clip of the motion for closer inspection, and you can set motion detection zones so it only captures what happens in the area you choose. On top of the notification, the TC60 can trigger light and sound effects as an alarm to frighten away unwanted visitors. A built-in microphone and speaker give two-way audio for talking to a loved one at home.

Privacy is handled two ways on this model. Privacy mode shuts down surveillance whenever you want, and TP-Link pairs it with local storage on a microSD card. TP-Link states the TC60 supports microSD cards of up to 512 GB after updating to the latest firmware; the card is not included. One of the official gallery images still shows the earlier 128 GB figure, so update the firmware before fitting a larger card.

Everything runs through the free Tapo app. TP-Link lists playback of previous recordings by date, scheduled recording that captures video on your timetable whether or not motion is detected, and a multi-view screen that shows four views on one page, with up to 32 cameras in one app. You can save and share memorable moments with your family. Setup follows three steps in TP-Link's guide: download the Tapo app, turn on and plug in the camera, and follow the in-app guide.

The TC60 connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n, up to 72.2 Mbps on 802.11n) with WPA/WPA2-PSK, and protects data with 128-bit AES encryption with SSL/TLS. It has a reset button and a system LED, and is powered by a DC adapter rated 100-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz, 0.3 A in and 9.0 V, 0.6 A out. It measures 67.6 x 54.8 x 98.9 mm and operates from 0 °C to 40 °C at 10% to 90% RH, non-condensing. The box contains the TC60 camera, DC power adapter, quick start guide, mounting screws and mounting template.
