The TP-Link TC43 is a Tapo outdoor pan/tilt security camera with 3K 5MP (2880 x 1620) resolution, 360° pan coverage, starlight full-colour night vision from two built-in spotlights and 850 nm IR to 29.9 m. Free AI detection identifies people, pets and vehicles and flags tampering and line crossing. It connects by 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with dual external antennas or by Ethernet, is rated IP66, and records to microSD up to 512 GB or Tapo Care by subscription.

TC43 overview

The TC43 is TP-Link Australia's outdoor pan/tilt security Wi-Fi camera in the Tapo range, built around a 3K 5MP image. Its maximum resolution is 2880 x 1620 pixels, which TP-Link says offers enhanced video quality better than 1080p, and frame rate is selectable at 15, 20, 25 or 30 fps (15 fps by default) with H.264 compression. The sensor is a 1/2.7-inch progressive scan CMOS starlight sensor, the lens is 4.0 mm at F1.6 with a 105.3° diagonal, 88.0° horizontal and 46° vertical field of view, and digital zoom reaches 12x. 3DNR and WDR are applied to the image.

Low-light performance relies on the starlight sensor working with two built-in spotlights for colour images at night, and 850 nm infrared LEDs reach 98 ft (29.9 m). In smart mode the live view switches from black and white to colour after a person is detected. The pan/tilt mechanism has 340° of mechanical pan for 360° pan coverage and 90° of mechanical tilt, which the specification table lists as 135.5° tilt coverage; the overview section of the same page describes it as 360° horizontal and 130° vertical. Motion tracking follows activity, and patrol mode keeps the camera cruising among several customised points.

TP-Link calls the TC43's AI detection free: it identifies people, pets and vehicles, and detects tampering and line crossing, sending instant notifications when specific objects are detected. Customisable activity zones focus alerts on your most important areas. The custom sound and light alarm lets you record your own audio alarm and adjust the two spotlights for fine-tuned illumination, with a siren rated at 93 dB measured at 10 cm. Two-way audio with noise cancellation lets you speak to people outdoors, and a physical privacy mode blocks the lens with the housing.

For connectivity, the TC43 uses IEEE 802.11b/g/n/ax 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi through dual high-performance external antennas, which TP-Link says extend wireless coverage up to 492 ft in open areas. That figure is based on TP-Link tests in open areas, and actual experience may vary with environment, router specifications and other factors. A 10/100 Mbps RJ45 port provides a wired connection instead. RTSP and ONVIF are supported, and security includes 128-bit AES encryption with SSL/TLS, WPA/WPA2-PSK and on-device machine learning.

Footage is saved to a microSD card of up to 512 GB (purchased separately), which TP-Link estimates at 92 hours of 3K 5MP video on 128 GB, 184 hours on 256 GB and 368 hours (about 15 days) on 512 GB; actual storage time may vary with use. Tapo Care cloud storage is available by subscription after a 30-day free trial and adds snapshot notifications, encrypted protection, data backups and a 30-day video clip history. In the Tapo app, guided setup helps choose the mounting location and angle, smart playback finds events by type or timeline, and Tapo sharing lets family members manage the camera together. It works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa; the app requires iOS 12.0 or Android 5.0 or later.

The TC43 is rated IP66 and operates from -30 °C to 60 °C at 10% to 90% RH, non-condensing. It can be mounted on a ceiling, wall or pole (pole-mounting loops required but purchased separately), measures 123.8 x 123 x 90 mm, and is powered by a 9 V DC adapter (100-240 V input; 9 V, 0.85 A output). In the box are the TC43 camera, power adapter, mounting anchors, mounting screws, bracket screws, mounting template, mounting bracket, waterproof seal, waterproof cable attachments and quick start guide.
