The TP-Link SM6110-LR is an Omada 25GBASE-LR SFP28 LC transceiver for single-mode fibre. It is dual rate (25.78 Gbps and 10.31 Gbps), works at 1310 nm over 9/125 um fibre for up to 10 km, uses a duplex LC/UPC connector, supports DDM, is hot swappable and draws no more than 1.2 W.

SM6110-LR overview

The SM6110-LR is TP-Link's long-reach SFP28 optical module for Omada networks. TP-Link describes it as a 10G/25GBASE-LR high-performance 1310 nm single-mode SFP+/SFP28 transceiver, designed to extend transfer distances on 10G and 25G Ethernet connections. It supports full-duplex 10G and 25G Ethernet links of up to 10 km over 9/125 um single-mode fibre, with a dual data rate of 25.78 Gbps and 10.31 Gbps. That dual-rate design means the same module can be used in 25G SFP28 ports and in 10G ports: TP-Link's datasheet names compatibility with switches with 25G ports such as the SX6632YF, and with 10G ports such as the SG3428X and SG3452X. The datasheet highlights also describe it as compatible with the 10G/25G Small Form Pluggable Multi-Source Agreement (SFP28 MSA), and list hot-pluggable operation, Digital Diagnostic Monitoring and low power consumption of no more than 1.2 W.

Optically, the SM6110-LR uses a DFB transmitter and a PIN receiver in TO-CAN packaging, with a duplex LC/UPC connector. Transmitter power is -7 to 2 dBm at 25.78 Gbps and -8.2 to 0.5 dBm at 10.31 Gbps. Receiver sensitivity is better than -13.3 dBm at 25.78 Gbps and -14.4 dBm at 10.31 Gbps, with receiver overload above 2 dBm and 0.5 dBm respectively, and the extinction ratio is above 3 dB at 25.78 Gbps and 3.5 dB at 10.31 Gbps. These published optical figures are the ones to use when you plan the link budget for a fibre run. A built-in CDR (clock and data recovery) is also listed.

For operations, the module supports Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM). It is hot swappable, which TP-Link describes as hot-pluggable with maximum flexibility, and it complies with the SFP28 Multi-Source Agreement (SFP-MSA). Listed standards and protocols are IEEE 802.3cc and IEEE 802.3ae; SFF-8402, SFF-8431, SFF-8432 and SFF-8472; eCPRI and CPRI; and TCP/IP. It runs from a 3.3 V supply, with power consumption of no more than 1.2 W, which TP-Link highlights as low power consumption.

The SM6110-LR is rated for operating temperatures of 0 to 70 degrees C and storage from -40 to 85 degrees C, with 10 to 90 per cent RH non-condensing operating humidity and 5 to 90 per cent RH non-condensing storage humidity. It measures 57 x 14 x 12 mm and carries CE, FCC and RoHS regulatory compliance. In the box are the SM6110-LR and an installation guide. ARC IP Networks supplies the SM6110-LR from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
