The TP-Link SM5110-SR is an Omada 10GBase-SR SFP+ LC transceiver: an 850 nm multi-mode module that supports full-duplex 10G Ethernet up to 300 m on 50/125 μm fibre or 33 m on 62.5/125 μm fibre. It has an LC duplex port, supports DDM, is SFP+ MSA compatible and hot swappable, and TP-Link names switches with 10G SFP+ ports such as the SG3428X and SG3428XMP as compatible.

SM5110-SR overview

The SM5110-SR is TP-Link's Omada 10GBase-SR SFP+ LC transceiver. TP-Link says it is designed to extend transfer distances based on 10 Gbps Ethernet connectivity, and describes it as a 10GBASE-SR high-performance 850 nm multi-mode SFP+ transceiver. It supports full-duplex 10G Ethernet connections up to 300 m with 50/125 μm fibre or 33 m with 62.5/125 μm fibre; the product page spec table gives the 300 m figure for OM3. The data rate is 10 Gbps, and the standards and protocols TP-Link lists are IEEE 802.3ae, TCP/IP and SFF-8472.

On the optical side, the SM5110-SR uses an 850 nm wavelength and is specified for 50/125 μm or 62.5/125 μm multi-mode fibre, with an LC duplex port. Maximum laser output power is 0.794 mW (-1 dBm). TP-Link states it is compatible with switches with 10G SFP+ ports, such as the SG3428X, SG3428XMP and more. For comparison, TP-Link's SM5110-LR is a 10GBase-LR single-mode SFP+ LC transceiver rated for 10 km. The comparison table below sets the two published specifications side by side.

TP-Link's highlights for the SM5110-SR are that it is a multi-mode SFP+ LC transceiver, hot swappable with maximum flexibility, supports Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM), and is compatible with the 10G Small Form Pluggable Multi-Source Agreement (SFP+ MSA). Power is 3.3 V, and the module carries FCC and CE safety and emission approvals. It measures 61.3 x 14.5 x 12.2 mm (2.4 x 0.6 x 0.5 in).

TP-Link rates the SM5110-SR for operation from 0 to 70 °C (32 to 158 °F) and storage from -40 to 85 °C (-40 to 185 °F), with operating humidity of 10 to 90% RH non-condensing and storage humidity of 5 to 90% RH non-condensing. In the box are the SM5110-SR and an installation guide. When planning a link, check which multi-mode fibre is installed, because the rated reach is 300 m on 50/125 μm fibre but 33 m on 62.5/125 μm fibre. ARC IP Networks supplies the SM5110-SR from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
