The TP-Link EAP650-Outdoor is an Omada omnidirectional AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 indoor/outdoor access point for yards, pools, parks and other open areas. It has dual-band 2x2 Wi-Fi 6 with 160 MHz channels and up to 2402 Mbps on 802.11ax, an IP68 enclosure with 6 kV lightning protection, a -30 to 70 °C operating range, one Gigabit port powered by 802.3at PoE+ or 48 V passive PoE (adapter included), and Omada mesh, roaming and SDN management.

EAP650-Outdoor overview

The EAP650-Outdoor is TP-Link's Omada omnidirectional AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 indoor/outdoor access point. TP-Link describes it as providing reliable and stable outdoor network connections, and lists yards, swimming pools and parks as typical locations. It is a dual-band, four-stream design (two streams on 2.4 GHz and two on 5 GHz) to IEEE 802.11ax/ac/n/g/b/a, rated at up to 3.0 Gbps combined. On 802.11ax the signal rate runs from 8 Mbps up to 2402 Mbps (MCS0 to MCS11, NSS 1 to 2, HE20/40/80/160), on 802.11ac up to 1083.3 Mbps and on 802.11n up to 300 Mbps. TP-Link notes that these are maximum physical rates from the IEEE 802.11 specifications, and that actual throughput and coverage are not guaranteed.

For range, internal antennas with high-power amplifiers give omnidirectional coverage that TP-Link lists as up to 300 m (984 ft), based on laboratory testing. Antenna gain is 2 x 4 dBi on 2.4 GHz and 2 x 5 dBi on 5 GHz. Wi-Fi 6 features include 1024-QAM, OFDMA, MU-MIMO, the 4x longer OFDM symbol and beamforming, and the access point is rated for 250+ concurrent clients, with a datasheet maximum of 256 associated stations. Up to 16 SSIDs (eight per band), band steering, load balance, airtime fairness, rate limits, WMM QoS, URL filtering, automatic channel assignment and transmit power control are all listed, alongside reboot and wireless schedules and wireless statistics by SSID, AP or client.

The housing is built for the outdoors. It carries an IP68 weatherproof rating, ±6 kV lightning protection on the Ethernet port and a grounding terminal, and operates from -30 to 70 °C with 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity. The main unit measures 280.4 x 106.5 x 56.8 mm and weighs 0.81 kg, and pole and wall mounting kits are both included, along with a waterproof kit for the cable entry. TP-Link notes that lightning protection depends on proper setup, grounding and cable shielding.

Power and data arrive on one cable. The single 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 port accepts 802.3at PoE+ or 48 V passive PoE, and TP-Link includes a passive PoE adapter and power cord; the adapter is for dry indoor use only. Maximum power consumption is listed at 12.5 W (EU) or 14.7 W (US) on either PoE type, and 5.3 W idle. That means a standard 802.3at PoE+ switch port can run it, so it slots into an Omada switch network without extra power points outdoors.

Management can be standalone, through the web interface, SSH and SNMP, or centralised with Omada cloud-based, hardware or software controllers and the Omada app. Omada SDN identifies the access point automatically for one-click adoption, and cloud access requires an Omada controller while zero-touch provisioning requires the Omada Cloud-Based Controller. Omada mesh, 802.11k/v/r seamless roaming and captive portal authentication are listed for use with a controller; the datasheet also shows standalone mesh and repeater modes. Security covers WPA3, WPA2 and WPA Personal/Enterprise, 802.1X, SSID-to-VLAN mapping, MAC filtering, client isolation and rogue AP detection. The datasheet lists Omada Controller and Omada Essential V5.15 and above and Omada App V4.25 and above. It is CE and FCC certified.
