The TP-Link POE160S is an Omada gigabit PoE+ injector that adds up to 30 W of IEEE 802.3af/at power to a single Ethernet cable. It has a 10/100/1000 Mbps data-in port and a power+data-out port, an integrated power supply with an AC socket, auto-sensing power detection, plug-and-play setup and wall or desktop mounting, for devices such as APs, IP cameras and IP phones.

POE160S overview

The POE160S is an Omada PoE+ injector. It fully complies with the IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at standards and supplies up to 30 W of PoE power, carrying data and power together over one Ethernet cable, which TP-Link says reduces infrastructure costs. TP-Link states it works with all IEEE 802.3af/at compliant powered devices (PDs) or PoE receiver adapters, such as TP-Link's POE10R (TL-POE10R) or an equivalent product, to extend your network to places where there is no power line or outlet but you want to fix a device such as an AP, IP camera or IP phone.

Both network ports are gigabit: a 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 data-in port and a 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 power+data-out port. TP-Link highlights the two gigabit ports as ensuring faster transmission. Supported standards are IEEE 802.3i, 802.3u, 802.3ab, 802.3af and 802.3at. 1000BASE-T runs over UTP Cat5, Cat5e or Cat6 cable up to 100 m, 100BASE-TX over Cat5 or Cat5e, and 10BASE-T over Cat3, 4 or 5, each up to 100 m, or over EIA/TIA-568 100 Ω STP up to 100 m for 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX.

Power management is automatic. An auto-sensing algorithm lets the POE160S provide power to 802.3af/at powered devices, and it automatically determines the power the connected device needs and supplies that exact amount, up to a maximum of 30 W. The power supply is integrated, so there is no external adapter: the injector takes 100 to 240 V AC at 50/60 Hz through its AC socket, and a power cord is included. TP-Link describes installation as plug and play, with no configuration required.

The POE160S measures 125 x 59.4 x 36.8 mm and supports both wall-mounting and desktop installation, which TP-Link says accommodates most installation scenarios; wall mounting kits are included, and the wall-mounting holes are 115.7 mm apart vertically and 37.7 mm horizontally. It is rated for operation from 0 °C to 40 °C at 10% to 90% RH non-condensing and for storage from -40 °C to 70 °C, and carries FCC and CE certification. In the box are the POE160S, an installation guide, a power cord and wall mounting kits. ARC IP Networks supplies the POE160S from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
