The Cisco NIM-24A= in depth

Terminal server in a NIM

The NIM-24A= adds 24 RS-232 asynchronous ports to a Cisco 4000 Series ISR, turning the router into a terminal server for console access to switches, routers and other devices.

Cabling

Ports are presented on high-density connectors that fan out through 8-port octal cables to RJ-45 connectors. Because of compact connector placement, only the slimmer CAB-ASYNC-8 cable fits the lower and middle sockets.

Platform support

Cisco supports the module on the 4221, 4321, 4331, 4351, 4431 and 4451 from IOS XE 16.3.1, with up to two or three modules per router depending on model.
