The Mercusys MS128GP is a 28-port Gigabit rackmount switch with 24 Gigabit PoE+ ports, two Gigabit uplink ports and two Gigabit SFP slots. PoE+ ports deliver up to 30 W each within a 295 W budget, switching capacity is 56 Gbps, and Extend Mode, Priority Mode (ports 1-4), Isolation Mode (1-12 / 13-24) and PoE Auto Recovery are built in.

MS128GP overview

The MS128GP gives a rack 24 Gigabit PoE+ ports and four Gigabit uplinks. Ports 1-24 are 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45, compatible with 802.3af/at powered devices at up to 30 W per port, and they share a 295 W total PoE budget. Uplinks are two 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports and two Gigabit SFP slots for 1000BASE-X multimode or single-mode fibre. Mercusys notes that its PoE budget calculation is based on laboratory testing and the real figure depends on client limitations and the environment. The Australian page lists V1.

For surveillance, offices and small businesses, the expected loads are IP cameras, APs, IP phones, PCs and recorders. Extend Mode raises PoE power and data distance to 250 m, and the overview says the MS128GP has four long-range ports; in this mode the port speed is downgraded to 10 Mbps and distance varies with the quality of the cables. Isolation works in two halves, ports 1-12 and 13-24, each kept apart to stop tampering and broadcast storms spreading. Priority Mode on ports 1-4 favours delicate traffic such as voice and video.

PoE Auto Recovery applies to all 24 PoE ports, rebooting a powered device automatically when it stops sending data packets for an extended length of time. Mercusys says no configuration or central management is required. Switching capacity is 56 Gbps and the MAC table holds 8K entries with auto-learning and auto-aging. Supported standards are IEEE 802.3i, 802.3u, 802.3ab, 802.3x, 802.3z, 802.3af and 802.3at, and LEDs show power, link/activity, PoE status and PoE Max.

The MS128GP measures 440 x 180 x 44 mm (17.3 x 7.1 x 1.7 in), sits on a desk or mounts in a rack, and is cooled by two fans; Mercusys describes a durable metal case and a physical security lock slot. With 295 W of devices connected, maximum consumption is 336.58 W at 220 V / 50 Hz. Operating temperature is -10 to 45 °C, with CE and RoHS marks. Mounting brackets with fittings, a power cord and an installation guide are packed with the MS128GP.
