The Mercusys MS120GP is a 20-port Gigabit rackmount switch with sixteen 802.3af/at PoE+ ports, two Gigabit non-PoE RJ45 ports and two Gigabit SFP slots. With 30 W per port, 192 W overall and 40 Gbps of switching, it also brings Extend Mode, Priority Ports 1-4, Isolation Mode and PoE Auto Recovery.

MS120GP overview

The MS120GP is the Gigabit sixteen-PoE switch in the Mercusys rackmount line. Its ports are sixteen 10/100/1000 Mbps PoE+ RJ45, two 10/100/1000 Mbps non-PoE RJ45 and two Gigabit SFP slots for 1000BASE-X multimode or single-mode fibre. Each PoE+ port is compatible with 802.3af/at powered devices at up to 30 W, and the total power budget is 192 W. Mercusys stresses that the budget is based on laboratory testing and varies with client limitations and environmental factors. The Australian page lists V1.

Mercusys sees the MS120GP in surveillance, offices and small businesses, powering IP cameras, access points, IP phones, PCs and video recorders. Extend Mode stretches PoE power and data to 250 m; the overview says the MS120GP has four long-range ports, and extended ports slow to 10 Mbps, with real reach depending on device draw and cable. Isolation Mode divides traffic into two groups, ports 1-8 and 9-16, to prevent snooping and isolate broadcast storms. Priority Ports 1-4 put delicate traffic such as voice and video first.

PoE Auto Recovery spans ports 1-16 and reboots any powered device that stops sending data packets for an extended length of time. Mercusys says no configuration or central management is required. Switching capacity is 40 Gbps, the MAC table holds 8K entries with auto-learning and auto-aging, and the switch supports IEEE 802.3i, 802.3u, 802.3ab, 802.3x, 802.3z, 802.3af and 802.3at with store-and-forward switching. LEDs show power, link/activity, PoE status and PoE Max.

The metal case measures 440 x 180 x 44 mm (17.3 x 7.1 x 1.7 in) and can sit on a desk or mount in a rack. It is cooled by two fans and has a physical security lock slot. Maximum power consumption is 17.25 W with no powered devices and 219.05 W with 192 W of devices connected (220 V / 50 Hz). It operates from -10 to 50 °C and is CE and RoHS marked. Accessories: power cord, installation guide, and mounting brackets with fittings.
