The Cisco Meraki in depth

5G Standalone cellular WAN

The Meraki MG52 is a 5G Standalone and Non-Standalone cellular gateway that turns a cellular signal into an Ethernet handoff for a Meraki MX or any non-Meraki router. Its CAT20 modem reaches up to 2 Gbps down and 300 Mbps up, and 5G Standalone supports features such as network slicing.

eSIM, dual SIM and flexible placement

A cloud-managed eSIM lets the MG52 connect without a physical SIM, alongside two nano SIM slots for failover. The IP67 housing, internal antennas and 802.3at PoE power let you mount it where signal is strongest, away from the firewall.

Managed from the Meraki cloud

The MG52 is self-configuring, monitored 24x7 by Meraki cloud services and updated automatically, with remote diagnostics in the dashboard. It requires a Meraki MG52 Enterprise licence (1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 years).

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the Cisco Meraki from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.

Yes. Every Meraki hardware device requires a cloud licence to be managed. The MG52 uses the MG52 Enterprise licence and support, LIC-MG52-ENT-1Y, 3Y, 5Y, 7Y or 10Y.

Meraki lists RCM (ANZ, APAC) certification, with Optus among the certified carriers and Telstra certification in progress. Other carriers may also be compatible where bands match.

Yes. The MG52/52E features a cloud-managed eSIM, so it can connect to a cellular network without a physical SIM, in addition to two nano (4FF) SIM slots.

Meraki lists a maximum wireless data rate of 2 Gbps down and 300 Mbps up in passthrough mode, or 1.5 Gbps / 300 Mbps with NAT.

The MG52 has internal antennas. The MG52E uses four external dipole antennas (included) with an optional patch antenna; specifications are otherwise the same.
