The Mercusys MA80XE (v1) is an AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 PCIe card with Bluetooth 5.2, built on an Intel Wi-Fi 6 chipset. Mercusys lists 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, 2x2 MU-MIMO, OFDMA, 1024-QAM and 160 MHz channels, two fixed high-performance omnidirectional antennas and WPA3-SAE. It supports Windows 11 and Windows 10 (64-bit) and ships with a Bluetooth header cable.

MA80XE overview

The MA80XE is an AX3000 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 PCIe adapter that also gives a desktop Bluetooth 5.2. Version 1, described here, uses an Intel Wi-Fi 6 chipset, which Mercusys says delivers more stable and broader connections. With 1024-QAM and 160 MHz of bandwidth, the listed signal rates reach 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, and the card supports IEEE 802.11 a/ac/ax on 5 GHz and 802.11 b/g/n/ax on 2.4 GHz with full backward compatibility to 802.11ax/ac/a/b/g/n. Mercusys's own illustration sets a 2x2 160 MHz Wi-Fi 6 card with MU-MIMO at 2.4 Gbps against 867 Mbps for a 2x2 80 MHz Wi-Fi 5 card and 1000 Mbps for a traditional gigabit wired link. These numbers are maximum physical rates from the IEEE 802.11 specifications, not guaranteed throughput, which changes with network conditions, the access point and your surroundings.

Gaming wants low latency and VR wants speed, says Mercusys, and the MA80XE answers with OFDMA and 2x2 MU-MIMO. The page states OFDMA lowers latency by up to 75% for live streaming, video chats and responsive gaming. That figure comes from Intel simulation of 802.11ax with and without OFDMA across 9 clients, where average latency fell from 36 ms to 7.6 ms, and it only applies when the access point and every client support OFDMA. Wi-Fi 6, OFDMA, MU-MIMO, 1024-QAM and HE160 likewise need the access point to support them, and 160 MHz channels may not all be available in some regions because of regulation.

Bluetooth 5.2 on the card lets you pair Bluetooth gadgets with the PC. Mercusys says it outperforms Bluetooth 4 in connection stability, range and transmission speed, and cites the Bluetooth Core Specification 5.0 and 5.2 releases as bringing twice the speed and four times the coverage of Bluetooth 4.2. A Bluetooth header cable is supplied in the box. Mercusys cautions that functionality may be restricted on some computing systems and platforms and recommends updating the driver for feature compatibility.

Two fixed high-performance omnidirectional antennas are fitted, which Mercusys says increase the range of your current Wi-Fi for a seamless connection from further away. Operating system support is Windows 11 and Windows 10, 64-bit only. Security covers WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK and WPA3-SAE, with WPA3 needing an access point that supports it. Reception sensitivity reaches -90 dBm (HE80 MCS0) on 5 GHz and -91 dBm (HE40 MCS0) on 2.4 GHz. The card is 226.3 x 120.8 x 21.5 mm and runs from 0 to 40 °C. In the box are the AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 Bluetooth 5.2 PCIe Adapter (MA80XE), the Bluetooth header cable, a quick installation guide and a resource CD.
