The Mercusys MA70XE is an AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 PCIe card with Bluetooth 5.4 for desktop PCs. Mercusys lists 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, two fixed high-performance omnidirectional antennas, MU-MIMO, OFDMA and WPA3-SAE. It supports 64-bit Windows 11 and Windows 10, and Bluetooth is fully enabled once the included header cable is connected to a motherboard USB 2.0 header.

MA70XE overview

For a desktop that needs dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and current Bluetooth from one expansion card, Mercusys offers the MA70XE, an AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 Bluetooth 5.4 PCIe adapter. It is built on the IEEE 802.11ax standard, with IEEE 802.11 a/ac/ax listed for 5 GHz and 802.11 b/g/n/ax for 2.4 GHz, and full backward compatibility with 802.11ax/ac/a/b/g/n. Listed signal rates are 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. Mercusys puts the 5 GHz figure in context: 802.11ax allows a 1201 Mbps maximum theoretical rate on 5 GHz, 1.4 times the 867 Mbps of 802.11ac and nearly 2.7 times the 433 Mbps of baseline 1x1 ac Wi-Fi, provided the router is a similarly configured 802.11ax model.

Mercusys says Wi-Fi 6 lets the MA70XE deliver ultra-low latency, lag-free streaming and steady connectivity for real-time gaming and immersive VR. MU-MIMO and OFDMA are both listed, and like 1024-QAM they need an access point that supports the same features. Those signal rates are maximum physical figures from the IEEE 802.11 specifications; the throughput, coverage and device count you actually get are not guaranteed and shift with network conditions, access point limitations and the building around you. Reception sensitivity is published as -90 dBm (HE80 MCS0) and -59 dBm (HE80 MCS11) on 5 GHz, and -91 dBm (HE40 MCS0) and -60 dBm (HE40 MCS11) on 2.4 GHz.

Bluetooth 5.4 is the other half of the card. Mercusys describes it as designed for enhanced stability, broader compatibility and faster transmission, and notes that Bluetooth Core Specifications 5.0, 5.3 and 5.4 introduced features including double the speed and four times the coverage of Bluetooth 4.2. Full Bluetooth functionality requires connecting the included Bluetooth header cable to your motherboard's USB 2.0 header. Mercusys adds that functionality of the MA70XE may be restricted on some computing systems and platforms, and that a driver update can help with feature compatibility.

Two fixed high-performance omnidirectional antennas handle coverage; Mercusys markets them as strong signal-booster antennas that extend the range of your existing Wi-Fi. Supported systems are Windows 11 and Windows 10, both 64-bit. Security options are WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK and WPA3-SAE, with WPA3 requiring a compatible access point. The card measures 226.3 x 120.8 x 21.5 mm and operates from 0 to 40 °C. In the box you get the AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 Bluetooth 5.4 PCIe Adapter (MA70XE), a Bluetooth header cable, a quick installation guide and a resource CD.
