The TP-Link ISM311LM is a 1000Base-SX multi-mode industrial SFP module: 850 nm, 1.25 Gbps data rate, up to 550 m over 50/125 or 62.5/125 µm multi-mode fibre with a duplex LC/UPC connector. It supports Digital Diagnostic Monitoring, is SFP-MSA compliant and hot-swappable, and is rated for -40 °C to 85 °C operation for use with TP-Link industrial switches.

ISM311LM overview

The ISM311LM is TP-Link's 1000Base-SX multi-mode industrial SFP module. TP-Link introduces it as a module for extending transfer distance: attached to TP-Link industrial switches, it extends a link to up to 550 m over multi-mode fibre. TP-Link also points out that users can choose whether and which fibre modules to use according to demand, in order to lower cost. The module complies with IEEE 802.3z and TCP/IP and runs at a data rate of 1.25 Gbps on an 850 nm wavelength. It is a multi-mode SFP LC transceiver with an LC duplex port type and a duplex LC/UPC connector, and the cable it is specified for is multi-mode fibre.

TP-Link lists an industrial product operating temperature range of -40 °C to 85 °C, and the same -40 °C to 85 °C range for storage, with operating and storage humidity of 5% to 85% RH non-condensing. On the fibre side it supports both 50/125 µm and 62.5/125 µm multi-mode cable, with a maximum cable length of 550 m in either case. TP-Link lists a maximum laser output power of 0.398 mW (-4 dBm) and a Class 1 laser rating, and the module takes a 3.3 V power supply.

Three hardware features are listed on both TP-Link's specification page and its datasheet. The ISM311LM supports Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM). It is compatible with the Small Form Pluggable Multi-Source Agreement (SFP-MSA). And it is hot-swappable, which TP-Link's datasheet describes as hot-pluggable with maximum flexibility. Together with the 1000Base-SX 850 nm optics and the LC duplex interface, these make up the full feature set TP-Link publishes for this module, alongside its IEEE 802.3z and TCP/IP standards support and FCC and CE regulatory compliance.

Physically the ISM311LM measures 56.4 x 13.4 x 11.0 mm on TP-Link's specification page (56.4 x 13.4 x 10.97 mm in the datasheet). The package contains the ISM311LM module and an installation guide. In summary, the key figures to check when specifying it are: 1000Base-SX, 850 nm, multi-mode fibre of 50/125 µm or 62.5/125 µm, up to 550 m, 1.25 Gbps, duplex LC/UPC, DDM, SFP-MSA, hot-swappable, and -40 °C to 85 °C operation. ARC IP Networks supplies the ISM311LM from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
